“This year, our movement made enormous gains that must be celebrated, yet we cannot overlook the anguish of the 76 families grieving loved ones who died in prison or the tens of thousands at risk of meeting the same fate."
Our statement on the the 2026 NY Legislative Session:
New York is one step closer to reuniting families and creating a fair pathway home for incarcerated people who have transformed while inside.
Call your lawmakers and tell them to pass Second Look now!

Apparently this scholarship is the talk of the town around Albany, MAY 30th is approaching!
We’ve heard it from the Executive Director of the Caucus, Charlene Gayle. He heard it from Racquel
"the political aficionado". But we still had to find the queen, the Chairwoman of the Association herself — Assemblywoman Latrice Walker to hear about the scholarship deadline.
When leadership is locked in, the message always gets through!
Don't miss your opportunity and make sure those scholarship applications are in before the deadline.
A report from @verainstitute out today, highlights the urgent need for sentencing reform in NY. We are far behind states like West Virginia & Wyoming in providing earned time credit to those incarcerated. The Earned Time Act would fix this—it deserves a vote this session.
“Our post-conviction process is broken. And once we acknowledge that, we have a responsibility as lawmakers to fix it. I sponsor the Challenging Wrongful Convictions Act because it is time to provide a meaningful pathway to relief for wrongfully convicted NYers. @VOCALNewYork
New York’s arcane sentencing laws are in urgent need of reform. Glad to see that the Second Look Act has passed through the Senate Codes committee.
As a public defender, I have seen firsthand the devastation wrought by inequities in our legal system. In the Assembly, I will be a champion for @Communities_NY from Day One.
Your struggle will not be in vain. Trust God and keep overcoming the obstacles in your life. The success you are about to run into will make it all worth it.
Proud to be the labor candidate — and deeply honored to have the support of the workers and unions fighting every day for working families. Let's bring it home! #LaborStrong
Another person has died in NYS prisons. His life mattered and we honor and remember him.
He was the 63rd person lost to this system in 2026.
Please light a candle. We will do the same.
We fought hard to reform the SCOC bc it has the power to conduct life-saving oversight in NY's prisons and jails.
New laws are only as effective as implementation. The Governor must appoint 3 new commissioners so the SCOC can do its job. https://t.co/CGhaotDm9Z
SECOND LOOK IS MOVING!
New York is one step closer to reuniting families and creating a fair pathway home for incarcerated people who have transformed while inside.
Tell Albany: pass Second Look now! https://t.co/Ciqqq4QBaK
I have an anti-shackling bill (S2667) that expands on existing law and could have prevented this woman from being forcibly restrained while giving birth.
It's unfathomable that this bill is even necessary, yet here we are.
