@cindypepper@DixonPlace I forgot to ask– can we quote your post as part of our collection of audience reviews? It would really help as we pitch the project to presenters for tour!
@a_bokchoi I forgot to ask– can we quote your post as part of our collection of audience reviews? And if so, is it okay if we use your name? It would really help as we pitch the project to presenters for tour!
I have never tried SPAM, but now I am damn curious thanks to @jaimesunwoo’s fantastic Specially Processed American Me (which of course is about more than canned “meat”). So glad I caught the final perf at @DixonPlace!
watching media about life through a korean-american lens by an actual korean-american absolutely hits different.
loved “specially processed american me” by @jaimesunwoo. i felt seen and heard.
@Helen_E_Shaw Yes they were! And last week, music historian Danelle Larson who interviewed the surviving Hormel Girls flew to NYC from Illinois to see the show after communicating with me via email for the past four years. Her research helped us develop the script and music!
NEW YORK, NY: Jan 27-Feb 19, @DixonPlace, @freereinproj, and @pingchongco present the world premiere of @jaimesunwoo's @Specially Processed American Me.

Korean American playwright @jaimesunwoo's new play, Specially Processed American Me, takes a surreal, yet grounded look at her own journey to peel back those layers — not just in the history of Spam, but also in the history of her own family.
NYC! Go see @jaimesunwoo’s show about SPAM: “Specially Processed American Me” @DixonPlace until Feb. 19th. It’s got amazing shadow puppetry, hilarious original music, incredible projections, & autobiography both poetic and absurd. (& the best prop food I’ve Ever seen onstage!)
