In May 1990,

during his visit to Zacatecas, Mexico, Pope John Paul II met a frail 4-year-old boy named José Herón Badillo.

Little Herón was battling terminal leukemia—his body weakened by treatments, weighing almost nothing, and doctors had given up hope. He was chosen to greet the Pope, holding a dove as a symbol of peace.

The Holy Father looked at the suffering child, hugged him gently, told him to release the dove, and kissed him on the forehead.

In that tender moment, Herón's family and priest believe a miracle happened through the intercession of God's grace working through the Pope.

Soon after, Herón's condition dramatically improved.

Medical tests showed the leukemia had vanished completely.

Today, as an adult, José Herón credits that papal kiss with saving his life: "God saved me for some destiny, and He knows what that is."

His family still gives thanks: "We thank God and the Pope, because it was through him that the miracle was performed."

Stories like this remind us of the profound holiness of Saint John Paul II—even during his lifetime, God's love shone through him to heal and comfort the suffering. 🙏
