@davestrom6 They amended 11 public pension statues when they made this law - removed ‘exempt from… state taxes’. Why would that do that because, to your point, no retired teacher or firefight makes a million? It’s because they intend to lower it to all of us soon.
Ken Jennings endorsed the Washington state income tax that removes retirement protections on teachers and firefighters.
His "Jeopardy" paycheck? It gets taxed by California. And Washington's new income tax gives him a credit for that.
@JaimeforWA in the @seattletimes:
“For nearly a century, Washington voters have rejected a state income tax at the ballot box. This time, lawmakers did not ask. Voting “yes” on Initiative 645 puts that power back in voters’ hands.”

Tough talk from @GovBobFerguson after the fact. He could have refused to sign the income tax law without the $1M threshold LOCKED IN. Leadership? More like sheep… but it doesn’t take sheep detectives to figure this one out. They. Will. Tax. Us. All. Vote Yes I645!
Once again, April Sims fails to answer a simple question: if this income tax was never meant to impact hardworking public employees’ retirement paychecks, why remove those protections in the first place?
Looks like WEA’s comments section is down 🫠ours still works for anyone who wants to have an open and honest conversation about how WA’s income tax is coming for your retirement check.
Looking forward to getting to the truth about how Washington’s new income tax erases protections for ALL state employee’s retirement checks tomorrow night!
Well it’s fall, time for pumpkins, my 48th birthday and election season!!! I’m staying off the ballot this year, but that doesn’t mean I’m on the sidelines. I’ve joined the effort to repeal Washington’s new income tax. Stay tuned for news and information about Initiative 645!
I want to sincerely thank everyone who believed in me and supported my campaign for Commissioner of Public Lands. Tonight, I called Dave Upthegrove to congratulate him on a well-run, issues-focused campaign and to wish him success. I ran for this office to protect Washington’s natural beauty, manage our Trust lands effectively, and safeguard our communities from wildfires and smoke. I hope our new Lands Commissioner will keep these priorities in mind moving forward.
As we celebrate American Indian Heritage Month, I’m deeply honored to receive support from Tribal Nations. Their trust and partnership mean so much to me, and together, we’re committed to protecting our lands and fostering a future that honors our shared heritage and vision for Washington.
Let’s keep working together toward a Washington where our environment and economy thrive!
The WA state School Superintendent is asking for $3 billion for K-12 education. On Day 1, my opponent wants to lock up 77,000 more acres of state trust land, a plan that would require the state to spend another $2 billion to replace the value of those lands.
In addition, this decision will cost schools, fire departments, EMS and hospitals $1.35 billion, which they rely on and which could make or break a hospital. It will also cut recreation, reduce wildfire capabilities, cost thousands of jobs, and destroy habitat. We should be using science-based management to protect the health of our forests and environment, rather than neglecting them and putting them at risk of catastrophic wildfires.
I have made it a priority to safeguard Washington’s wildlife and fisheries, focusing on endangered species recovery, sustainable fisheries, and balancing the needs of local economies with conservation efforts.

“Washingtonians and their public lands will benefit more from Herrera Beutler’s more-grounded perspective.” Thank you, @thenewstribune for the endorsement!
We live in the most beautiful state, and I want to keep it that way. As Commissioner of Public Lands, I will work with tribes, scientists, landowners, sportsmen and conservation groups to make sure Washington’s public lands and diverse array of species and habitats thrive.
