They also talked about their experiences following not only the sport as a whole but particular teams, and hearing Tim Kurkjian's story about meeting Earl Weaver lit up the whole room. A reminder to keep things light hearted and personal.
I don't follow sports, but hearing their, almost casual, conversation really drew me into the story of a team so beaten down by their seasonand still managing to pull together a World Series victory was inspiring.
Overall, her views on the subjects of gender, race, and their relation to the scientific community spoke truth to things I'd seen debated on social media for years. It was an eye opening discussion and one I that's made me think about sourcing information and communicating it.
This last semester, I've had the pleasure to see a pair of very interesting symposiums, the first of which being @AngelaDSaini's Gender, Race, and New Challenges for Science Journalism.

She spoke alot to the inconsistencies and double standards inherent on health studies relating to race, even going as far as showing a real medication expressly made for African-Americans using it as a spring board for explaing the perceived and real differences between races.
