We had set up checkpoints on the Naraingarh Road and diverted traffic; after all, it is our duty to stop them—otherwise, any group could simply come and sit on any highway. We used only mild force to stop them. However, they smashed vehicles and rammed their cars into our barricades. The DSP was standing in front of the vehicle, repeatedly asking them to discuss the matter right there, questioning the need to proceed further. We were willing to talk at the Panjokra Sahib Gurudwara, at the Panjokra police station, or even on the Naraingarh Road. But what was the need to go to NH-44? This implies they wanted to escalate the issue; their statements were inflammatory—clashing with police personnel, using abusive language, and provoking the force. We intend to hold talks with them and want the matter resolved. We are ready to offer dialogue; even that day at Panjokra Sahib, we gave assurances and were prepared to accept all their demands..."
