Funfact : Early in Sonic CD's development, the Stardust Speedway Act 2 Eggman statue was originally meant to be also visible in the distance of the background in Act 1!

Strangely enough, a similar Eggman statue can be seen in the Time Attack image for Stardust Speedway.

Stars are honestly much better and more fitting for Sonic to begin with imo considering they're seen a LOT on stuff like Sonic's emblem or even his plane since early on in this series.

Stars also means guidance and inspiration which is true to how Sonic's friends perceive him!
