Every Indian should learn Gulveer Singh's name today.

He just became the first Indian in history to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men's 10,000m.

The first ever.

He won the Silver in 27:49.78 at Scotstoun.

Australia's Ky Robinson took gold in 27:48.93. David Mullarkey of the Isle of Man got bronze in 27:50.28.

It was a 25‑lap race in pouring rain, and Gulveer missed gold by just 0.85 seconds.

Infact, he was fifth at the 6000m mark. He clawed back to third by the bell. Then he produced a finishing kick on the last lap to take silver.

Now Gulveer is 28, from Sirsa village in Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh. He is a serving Naib Subedar in the Grenadiers Regiment of the Indian Army.

He started running on village roads and farm trails while preparing for army recruitment, and joined through the sports quota in 2018.

He did not take up competitive running until after he joined the Army. It then took him four years to win his first senior medal, a bronze at the Federation Cup in Calicut in 2022.

Since then he has become the best distance runner this country has produced. He holds the national record in the 3000m, the 5000m and the 10,000m.

His 10,000m record of 27:00.22 broke a 16 year old mark held by Surendra Singh, who is his own coach.

In 2025 he won double gold at the Asian Championships in Gumi, in both the 5000m and 10,000m.

In March this year he became the first Indian ever to run a half marathon under 60 minutes, clocking 59:42 in New York.

He trains at altitude in Colorado Springs under Scott Simmons.

See, distance running is the one event where India has never had an alibi. No equipment. No expensive infrastructure. No coaching secret.

Just years of running in circles while nobody watches, against a field where East African athletes have owned the podium for four decades.

We have a billion and a half people and had never stood on that podium once.

A man from a village in Aligarh changed that last night, in the rain, in Scotland.

This was India's second athletics medal in Glasgow after Sarvesh Kushare's high jump silver on Monday.

Harjinder Kaur also took silver in the women's 69kg weightlifting on the same day with a personal best of 227kg.

India is on 12 medals so far, two gold, seven silver, three bronze. Gulveer still has the 5000m to run in Glasgow.

If you have thirty seconds today, go and find the clip of the last lap. Watch a soldier who learned to run on farm tracks outkick the field on a wet blue track four thousand miles from home.

Congratulations Gulveer. This one is going to matter for a long time.

But his inability to even rotate the strike against spin is negatively impacting his game in a big way. He is young, has time and has potential. Either correct his weaknesses or play him to his strengths. Not seeing what is plain obvious is just baffling #Tilak #MumbaiIndians

Either Tilak has to massively improve his game against spin or he has to be dropped to No.6 and should bat only in overs 16-20. He is a huge talent who has a top SR even against high pace and also possesses the calmness and composure in the death overs and the ability to finish.

If the rumours of Hardik moving out of MI are true, I hope he is put in the auction. Seeing the way our management is functioning right now they might even get finished players in return. We need a quality finisher and a good indian pace bowler. Don't settle for anything less.

Release him in the auction if you are really moving on from him. No need to trade him and strengthen other teams. And no team will be able to give us a retention worthy replacement. Better release him and make teams fight for him in the mini auction and get their purse reduced.

I am so so so proud of you @mipaltan for making the best team in the tournament almost sh*t their pants.

This is all I wanted as a fan. I will stay true to my words that result doesn't matter, effort does. Making 166 look like 250..this is what we are known for.

MI fans, if you want to enjoy winning the IPL final on the final ball twice, you as a fan have to go through the gut wrenching pain of accepting such last ball defeats.

Yes Tilak fumbled and yes Raj Bawa bowled too many extras and yes Ashwani should have come in for Raghu and maybe we could have won this game. But genuine fans know MI had absolutely no chance of making the playoffs this season even before a ball was bowled today.

Absolute blockbuster clash. This is what Mumbai Indians is known for..fighting till the end.

The players are crestfallen and I also saw SKY shed a tear in the post match presentation. That broke me. Not gonna leave you hanging in this tough time.
