@drmcarley @JamesBSumner@UcuLeft@UCUCommons @michael4hec @drrhianelinor I don't have a ready answer on that one, but the last few months on NEC and HEC have opened my eyes to how difficult it is to get through business / the agenda. The scales have fallen from my eyes.
@OU_Williams@AdamOzanne@dyfrig@ucu Yep, I agree & I can see what you're saying - persuasion about a different course to the SWP is better than condemnation. I don't read the piece, however, as a slagging off, but as analytical (even if shaped by a particular POV). In that sense it's pretty hard to dismiss.
@JamesBSumner@UcuLeft@UCUCommons What I will give credit to the so-called independents for is that when neither indefinite strike action, nor discontinuous strike action proved popular among members, they accepted it and moved. UCU Left would and will not. Still, their orientation towards UCUL concerns me.
@JamesBSumner@UcuLeft@UCUCommons One of the key issues here for me is that a number from the "left independent" faction - all if not most - must have voted for indefinite strike action - a move pushed by UCU Left - as HEC made a majority vote - with no guiding evidence that this is what the membership wanted.
From the list of GS contenders, @DrJoGrady is the best person to lead our union. With Grady we can rest assured ordinary members will be heard. @OnlyDavidHunter will also make a super VP. He's revitalized City College, Norwich! Do vote in the upcoming elections in the New Year!
I am delighted to share my campaign website, manifesto and strategy documents for each sector of our union.
This is a coherent, detailed, professional plan for change, with all UCU members at it core.

@calebmorganday@UCUDemocracy What precisely do you disagree with @calebmorganday? You may disagree with the political outlook, but calling something objectively false is quite a claim.
@OU_Williams@AdamOzanne@dyfrig@ucu I agree, in part. But my Socialist Appeal and Socialist Alternative colleagues seem to share the view with the SWP that the way forward in terms of IA is through indefinite strike action. This is the jewel in the crown, but it seems far removed from what ordinary members want.
@drrhianelinor Feel free to disabuse members of any ambiguity here. I'm curious to know whether you or (which) other HEC members voted for indefinite action in November 2022?
@OU_Williams@AdamOzanne@dyfrig@ucu Isn't the issue that the SWP have too great a sway on @UCU, and many of the smaller rival Trotskyist groups follow, and that this influence extends to UCU Left (some of whom have no SWP links) and beyond. If this mirrored what ordinary members wanted I'd have no issue, but...
This article makes clear what is hard to explain to outsiders about UCU Left politics and the corrosive influence of the SWP & rival Trotskyist groups within @UCU. It makes for interesting reading & lifts a veil from matters which are often semi- or fully obscured to members.
Ahead of the UCU General Secretary election opening in January next year, here's a new article on "The Trotskyist Politics of UCU Left" by Adam Ozanne and John Kelly: https://t.co/njmU4bBASn #UCU#UCUGSElection#GSElection2024#UCUDemocracy
Looking forward to @UCU Congress in Glasgow and to meeting people in person (who have been hitherto avatar-like screen colleagues). Please join us at the Brass Monkey tonight, 7.45pm, for drinks and talk about union democracy & FE and HE matters.
Well, that was weird. My Twitter account was hacked by a cryptocurrency / NFT artist calling themselves evaqu_77 & I was locked out for a week+. Not sure why anyone would bother trying to get my relatively small Twitter following hooked to cryptocurrency but hey-ho, there you go.
