Grateful to @AsmMikeFong & the team at @castudentaid for making this big change happen for CA Dream Act App students. We’re making it a #BetterCADAA to go along with #BetterFAFSA & get more aid to more students.
Apps for 24/25 open by Dec 31 & will feature changes here👇
The financial aid application for undocumented students is cumbersome and confusing, and many students aren’t completing the forms. A new law streamlines the process. https://t.co/4DrtKFTqjV

🚨Last night, @CAgovernor signed #AB1540!🎉
We thank @CAgovernor for signing this bill to help undocumented students receive #FinancialAid by removing administrative barriers! We also thank @AsmMikeFong & Lt. Governor @EleniForCA for their leadership & dedication to students!🎓
Appreciate the shout out by @CASpeakerRivas & work of #AB1540 author @AsmMikeFong.
Together, we’re going to help #RenewTheDream for undocumented students & simplify accessing aid.
This is 1 way we’re working toward a “Better CA Dream Act App” to go with the new #BetterFAFSA.
💲📚 #AB1540 by @asmmikefong will streamline the process for undocumented students to access state financial aid by incorporating the nonresident tuition exemption affidavit into the California Dream Act application.
@ThePatrickPerry@castudentaid@CAgovernor @EGReyesCA @EdTrustWest Yup! 70% felt like a stretch goal when we started but we all found a way to get it done. Next up is getting everybody ready for the new and “Better FAFSA” so we can maintain + build upon progress.
BIG news from @castudentaid today: CA led the nation in growth of #finaid apps by class of ‘23.
Many thanks to @CAgovernor, Asm @EGReyesCA & @EdTrustWest for setting a universal aid app policy.
This all happens thanks to so many K12 partners. Together, we’re #AllIn for students

Thank you to our amazing speakers! @akzucco @ib2_real
College cost is the most reported reason people struggle to pursue a degree, we learned from our collaboration with @Gallup in The State of Higher Education 2023 Report. Check out more findings in @FierceEducation: https://t.co/1Cycq9y2NM
#AB1400 will empower more transfer students to pursue a four-year degree at #HBCUs & bring their talent back to CA.
Yesterday, this passed the Asm by a UNANIMOUS vote. Now onto the Senate! #caleg
Major thanks to Asm. @isaacgbryan for leading the charge!
READ THIS: We need to streamline the process for undocumented students. Period. We also need to invest in helpful high school dream resource centers for students BEFORE they leave high school so that they can better understand the systems and resources.
Guest commentary:
Throughout elementary and middle school, I thrived academically and was placed in advanced courses. But when I got to high school, my immigration status began to cast a shadow over my plans for the future. https://t.co/LzGApMgakT

Happy May Revise, #CABudget folks!
Jumping in to provide a quick update on what’s here for students & @studentaid.
You can find our official statement here, but I wanted to give some context.
🧵
The @castudentaid Commission commends @CAgovernor Newsom’s commitment to college affordability reflected in the May Revision released today.
Read our statement here: https://t.co/ogeGvmdugp
@StudentAid We’re not done yet though, so more conversations to come on opportunities to make our State Budget even stronger working with the Administration & #CALeg
That’s it for now -- looking forward to talking more about all this at upcoming #CABudgethearings next week!
@StudentAid Overall, this May Revise makes or maintains smart investments to build on CA’s momentum on college affordability.
Big changes are coming to financial aid this next year, so additional capacity can't come at a more important time.
