Gen Z has just sent Hollywood a strong revolutionary message.
For the FIRST TIME this century two indie movies took #1 and #2 at the summer box office.
Around 80% of BACKROOMS and OBSESSION are under 35.
They want NEW ideas.
E.g., “Not every love story is a romance” (Nikki).
Just got out of Backrooms. Was mostly children actually, but the issues came from the parents in this one! One mother was playing Candy Crush the entire time! I asked her nicely to put it away twice and she yelled at me both times. She then caused a scene when somebody else asked
Folks, theater etiquette has to improve. A couple next to me at Backrooms brought in sushi & used their phone to light the food so they could eat with chopsticks. I don’t enjoy ranting/complaining about this sort of thing, but we as a society have to be better. Like come on.
When I saw Obsession, there was a girl in front of me in her phone the entire film. I politely asked her twice to put it away and got scoffed at both times as if I ruined her life. I got up and told an employee and they did nothing. Theater etiquette is dead
It is insane that a film is increasing every weekend at the box office, and as horror film under $1mil budget at that. Keep it rolling! This is what people want!
It's looking like $27m-$30m for #Obsession this weekend, another increase in Week 3. I'm at a loss for words for the phenomenal, unprecedented box office performance. Heading to a potential $200m domestic gross. @FocusFeatures@blumhouse@jason_blum@UniversalPics .
@ViolinzViolinz@candy_keimusume It happens at so many movie showing, I think you’re just seeing so much of it at Obsession right now because Obsession is the big film right now. But similar things happened to me at 4 out of 5 of the last showings I went to
While BACKROOMS gears up for a massive opening weekend, OBSESSION just passed $100 million at the global box office.
After a debut weekend of $17 million, Obsession made a whopping $23 million in its second weekend.
How much will it scare up this weekend? Stay tuned.
