BYU women's tennis defeated Gonzaga 4-0 on Friday afternoon for its second-consecutive victory. The Cougars improved to 9-5 on the season, 5-1 at home and 3-1 in conference play.

Freshman Tina Li secured her 12th singles victory of the season, improving to 12-2. Li is currently on an eight-match win streak. Sophomore captain Bobo Huang earned her 10th singles victory of the season, improving to 10-3. Sophomore Jacque Dunyon also came out victorious, improving to 9-2 on the year in singles play.

Jiao and Wheatley, at no. 3 doubles, jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, and never looked back as they defeated Atken and Sloan.

Huang and Li, at no. 2 doubles, led Oda and Hayes 3-0 early and eventually got the victory, clinching the doubles point for BYU.

Astle and Dunyon, at no. 1 doubles, lost the first game to go down 0-1, but won the next two to give themselves a 2-1 lead. The tandem was leading 5-2 before the match was left unfinished.

Dunyon, at no. 4, fell down 3-0 but later evened the set at 4-4 before the two were tied again at 5-5 and 6-6. Dunyon won the tiebreaker and took the first set. In the second set, Dunyon led 2-0 and later extended her lead to 4-1 before winning the match.

Li, at no. 3, jumped out to an early 2-1 lead and never looked back, winning the set 6-2. Li trailed 2-1 early in the second set before fighting back and winning the set 7-5, defeating Oda.

Astle, at no. 2, led 2-1 early before eventually taking a 5-1 lead and later winning the first set 6-3. In the second set, Astle fell down 3-0 and fought back to only trail 5-4, but Sosnowska took the set 6-4. Astle took an early 2-0 lead in the third set.

Huang, at no. 1, trailed 2-1 before things were eventually evened up at 4-4 and 5-5. Huang went on to win the next two games and the set 7-5. In the second set, Huang led 3-2 early and eventually won 6-2, while clinching the overall match for the Cougars.

Moore, at no. 5, trailed 5-1 in the first set and won five-straight games, fighting back to tie things up at 5-5, and then 6-6, before winning the tiebreaker 8-6. Moore jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set before eventually winning 6-3 and the match.

Wheatley, at no. 6, was tied with Hayes 3-3 in the first set before eventually winning 6-4. In the second set, Wheatley and Hayes were tied at 2-2 before eventually Wheatley pulled away and won 6-3, winning her match.

The Cougars return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 24 against Portland. The home match will begin at 12:00 p.m. MDT.
