BENCHING: a benched worker is someone here on a visa BUT NO EMPLOYER ASKED FOR THEM TO BE HERE. They have no real sponsor.

They are here playing visa games as their H-1B is expiring. They can status hop or get another Indian bodyshop (like Cognizant) to sponsor a change of status, usually to L-1.

Indian bodyshops use bench lists so they always can throw Indians after any job in the country. The bodyshops then lie to the US company and tell the US company they are a dedicated employee.

They are really sitting here doing nothing, waiting to take an American's job away from them.
