My second highlighted game of Day 2 at @BCAT was an intriguing showdown between Dobyns-Bennett and Baylor. Dobyns-Bennett entered the game riding high after a signature win over state power Brentwood, while Baylor stepped onto the floor looking to make a statement of its own. On paper, it had all the ingredients for a battle, and early on it looked exactly like that.
The opening quarter was competitive as both teams traded punches and settled into the game. Dobyns-Bennett managed to create a little breathing room and carried a 13-8 lead into the second quarter. That is when the Indians started to turn up the heat.
Behind a scorching first half from @TJMaxwell_14, Dobyns-Bennett began to create separation. The offense found its rhythm, the shots started falling, and Baylor struggled to slow the momentum. TJ poured in 22 first-half points as Dobyns-Bennett stretched the lead to 35-23 heading into the break.
To Baylor's credit, they came out swinging in the third quarter. They found more offensive rhythm and started hitting shots of their own, but every time they made a push, Dobyns-Bennett had an answer waiting. They never flinched and maintained control, taking a 51-40 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Any hopes of a Baylor comeback were quickly erased in the final period.
Dobyns-Bennett slammed the door shut with a strong closing stretch, continuing to rain in shots from the perimeter and refusing to surrender momentum. When the final horn sounded, they had taken an impressive 64-48 victory.
This game turned into a three-point shooting showcase. Both teams were lighting it up from deep, and it wasn't because of poor defense. The shot-making was simply outstanding. Time after time, players were making contested shots, tough looks, and momentum-changing triples that kept the gym buzzing.
Dobyns-Bennett was led by #14 @TJMaxwell_14, who put together a special performance with 33 points, including 6 three-pointers, while adding 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Teammate #0 @ElijahT2027 was equally dangerous from beyond the arc, finishing with 20 points on 6 triples while adding 3 rebounds and 2 steals.
Baylor was led by its own dynamic duo. #10 Caleb Copeland knocked down 5 three-pointers on his way to 15 points while adding 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Teammate #3 @JakeNeal3 added 14 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist. Jake especially caught my attention with the way he competed. He was a physical guard who played with grit, toughness, and confidence, consistently creating his own shot and refusing to back down from the challenge.
This one may have ended with a comfortable margin, but for much of the afternoon it was a battle between two talented teams putting on an absolute shooting clinic from beyond the arc.
