@iampastorgainz A tough thing to do. I actually have to think about it in my head as “streaming” when it comes to daily hanging out and interacting with the community. And for content creation I like to think of it as “filming a video live”. Kinda silly but it helps me lol.

Any PC tech bros out there, plz help. I’m in over my head.

I’ve built a couple custom pcs in my day but after attempting to build the one to rule them all I’ve started to run into issues I can’t seem to fix / don’t understand. I’m wondering if I did something wrong because I feel like my 30 series laptop handles some things better than my 4090 desktop build.

This is gonna be a long ahh tweet but hopefully someone who knows more than me about pcs can easily spot where the issue is.

Custom built my computer less than a year ago, has a 4090, ryzen 9 7950x, asus X670E HERO, gskill f5-6000 DDR5 32gb ram (2x16gb, recently removed 2 of the 4 16gb RAM Sticks so instead of 64gb of ram I have 32gb because I was told that some configurations force an entire cycle each pass of all 64gb of ram so it can bottleneck performance? Would love to know more about this lol. Default clock speed is set to 2400mhz which is just the auto setting in my bios, tried the EXPOII protocol and immediately blue screened after closing a window after booting. Luckily didn’t brick my shi so I’m all good there just reverted back to auto)

I don’t think any of the issues I’m having are heat or power related, I have a Kraken Z73 360mm AIO liquid cooler and a evga 1600 power supply

All drivers for nvidia are up to date, ran default bios settings, most of the time it runs fine but here’s where my big issue areas are

C drive is a 2tb 980Pro nvme SSD
Have another 980 nvme and a 8tb 870 QVO SSD

Okay here’s my main issues -
1. If I’m streaming / recording in OBS at the same time with a single pc setup even at 1080 if I try to film 60fps my entire obs will crash. (I’ve also tried running a dual pc setup but across 3 different capture cards I’ve had like a 10ms audio delay that I cant fix) uninstalled and reinstalled obs, no fix.

here’s my recording and streaming settings: mkv / NVENC HEVC / CBR 24000kbps (I make YouTube videos out of my livestreams so ideally I’d have an even larger bit rate or resolution but it struggles already as it is) / two pass full resolution / 1920x1080 60fps / streaming at 1920x1080 60fps 6000kbps)

2. Once I’ve filmed something and go to remux, if I were to remux the same video on my 30 series laptop pc setup side by side, the laptop would remux twice as fast. How is that possible?

The main thing is I just feel as if the performance boost from my old desktop with a 2080 is slim. Perhaps I’m demanding too much from a single pc and just need to keep trying different capture cards until my audio delay on the 2 pc setup goes away.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you so much for your time, I’d love to know whatever insights you may have into this build and if im a big stupid dum dum and did something wrong you won’t offend me for pointing it out :)

Ps. I just ordered a i9 14900k 4080 professionally prebuilt setup to test against this, if it turns out that it’s just too demanding on a single pc then hopefully those two pcs together will be strong enough to multi stream without any of these issues. However if the new build doesn’t struggle to do the same things I was trying on my custom build then I’ll likely be tearing it all apart and rebuilding it to figure out what’s wrong.
