The last time @BergFootball beat Mount, I was a junior at The Ohio State University, and @Coach_Donaldson and @coachjasonlewis were eating pizza rolls playing Super Mario Brothers 2.
These girls battled today in tournament play and came through in some pressure situations, beating a good Brookfield team 4-2! Alina Jones with a masterpiece, striking out 12; Evelyn Tucker had 2 hits to lead offensively! We advance to Districts Monday at home at 5 pm. Let’s Go!
We had a short trip to Midview today to help them celebrate their beautiful new softball field. Despite the loss, there were some bright spots. Jess Jacobs had 2 hits and 3 RBI’s! Congratulations to Alina Jones for picking up her 100th strikeout of the season in the 1st inning!🥎
We love a hustle play on LCSN and that’s exactly what @chsraiderssball Jessica Jacobs provided on Monday (5/4/26) to drive in the first run of the game! 🥎 More high school #softball coverage near you is coming 🔜
Nick Saban on the Pat McAfee show talking about Ohio State fans obsessing over beating Michigan:
"These Ohio State fans are psychotic about this. They all need to go see a doctor. ... I'd rather win the National Championship than beat Michigan."
Happy Father's Day weekend from #DavesCarIDService, with a confession.
I will admit to crying eight times since the age of five: four after my grandparents died, twice when my kids were born, two more when my parents passed away. Otherwise I've been pretty successful in maintaining a stoic front. Ok, maybe a teeensy bit of tear at Field of Dreams. And Brian's Song. But I believe the Dude Society gives those movies a teardrop mulligan.
Death of a public figure that I don't even know? Please. Those are often sad, but no occasion to weep or wear one's heart on one's sleeve. It's right there in the Dude Society handbook. But here's my confession: when I learned Brian Wilson had passed on, I cued up "God Only Knows" and it was everything I could do to hold back the waterworks.
Not much I can add to the flood of accolades for Brian Wilson that poured forth this week. America's pop music Mozart; a gentle, generous, and childlike soul through whom God himself seemed to dictate the complex harmonies of the celestial jukebox.
"God Only Knows" is Exhibit A in the case for Brian Wilson's genius, one that left the likes of Lennon & McCartney awestruck and a hardened cynic like me choked up. It also allowed obituary-writing music snobs to acknowledge his genius while maintaining their music snob street cred. Among the eulogizing snobnocenti, his earlier sunny California surf & hot rod turf material was dismissed as Boomer AM radio fluff. Cute but unserious Dad Rock, Chuck Berry-meets-Four Freshmen novelty records. Something to be politely excused, a forgettable prelude to later musical glory.
And you know what? Guilty as charged. That stuff is Boomer Dad Rock, for the kind of Boomer dad you'd be grateful to have. A dad with a sunny disposition who loves his car, his girl, his fun, and his country. Pet Sounds revealed that this hypothetical dream dad could be also be vulnerable, sentimental, and surprisingly wise. In the ultimate irony Brian Wilson wasn't blessed with such a dad, but he wrote a decades-long soundtrack for those who aspired to be.
I'm one of those aspirants, not always successful at it, but his music helped me keep a sunny dad disposition when I need it. I'm proud I passed along my love of that songbook to my son, a pro musician who counts Brian Wilson as an inspiration. I suppose that's why Brian's songs proved as much a personal tearjerker as "Brian's Song."
So screw the snobs. I identify cars and thus will defend Brian Wilson's car music to the death. He wrote it with the same care, craftsmanship, and genius as he did his later critic-approved material. Those unserious dad songs are Faberge Eggs, and I'm sorry if he made them into shift knobs for a Little Deuce Coupe. I'm here to discuss some of them, and the cars that that inspired them.
This one's for Brian Wilson, seen here washing a 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix outside his boyhood home in Hawthorne, California.
