MLB International Draft + pushing the signing age to 18 will kill baseball in Latin America.
If you don’t believe me, see the talent coming out of Puerto Rico before and after 1989.
The data is there.
Eric Hartman with a 3 for 5 day with a double and 2 singles (got thrown out trying to stretch for a second double)
After hitting .299 in April and .296 in May, he is SCORTCHING to a .414 in June with 12 hits in 29 at bats and the exit velos continue to stay impressive. I have been super impressed with his feel for the zone and limited chase until he gets a pitch he can drive.
18 years ago, Chipper Jones became the 3rd switch-hitter to join the 400 HR club.
Since then, 2 others switch-hitters have accomplished the feat. The full list: Mickey Mantle, Eddie Murray, Jones, Carlos Beltran, and Mark Teixeira.
@Travis_Sawchik Hey Travis thanks for your MLB coverage, it's always enlightening. What would be the non cap solution to competitive balance in your opinion?
@kylegeorg Braves fan here and no I don't want a salary cap because it's not necessary to fix the issue. I agree "Small market" teams do need more revenue sharing but it must be spent on the 40 man payroll.
@TFG_Football The Pirates just paid a 19 year old kid more than any NFL free agent signed for over this offseason. This fact is why the players will never go for a cap. Only one position is paid relatively well in the NFL compared to other pro athletes.
@JamesFox917 I respect your opinion but career earnings are overwhelmingly in favor of baseball players and Konnor Griffin at 19 years old just signed for 140 MIL which is more than any NFL free agent player got this offseason. Players definitely benefit more from not being in a cap system.
