Birdwatching is my passion, but a young family mean I don't get much time for it so my house/garden list is the main one atm, also butterflies, moths, football
Cropped record shots of the Lesser Yellowlegs at the Splodge Manningtree/Cattawade in the early morning light today. I checked my records and it's my first since the 2016 bird at the Hythe Lagoons @EssexBirdNews
Record shots of one of a couple of Dippers in the village, my first Willow Tit in nearly 20 years and singing Crossbill, from a week in Brecon Beacons area, South Wales
No opportunity yesterday and didn't connect on brief pass before work this morning but luck was in late afternoon as it fed along the southern shoreline between Manningtree Coop and the railway line, the Hudsonian Godwit @EssexBirdNews
Anticipated for a while but wasn't expecting it be be a bird soaring high directly over the garden, immature Spoonbill drifting south, new house tick. Also this morning a Cuckoo flying north, sightings here have really dropped off in recent years Wix NE Essex @EssexBirdNews
First thing Saturday made the trip up to Walberswick (very cold) finally for the Zitting Cisticolas where I briefly saw a single bird twice, thanks to 4 returning birders who pointed me in the right direction; no photos, but several Spotted Redshank on the nearby pools were nice
Annual early in the year visit to the Abberton Reservoir causeways on Saturday. Also caught up with the white-fronts and the Tundra Bean Geese - my first for some time, Little Stint etc
@sean_nixon This explains why the ducks all lifted off from the mud bar when a GBBGull flew through just off LdlH Causeway yesterday, I was looking for a bird of prey but it was just the gull and the ducks didn't fly far and returned quickly to same spot
Nice to see at least 3 Firecrest at The Naze this morning, feeding low down, also a Swallow and Merlin, and pleased there are now lots of Blackbird about! @EssexBirdNews
Got something wrong at Upper Hollesley Common first thing this morning I'm sure I scanned every part of the perimeter fence and no sign of the Brown Shrike so I'll assume it was in the compound and came out onto the fence mid-morning... Singing Woodlark on a post nearby was nice
@BakerBoySOG@nickrobertlay Ditto, one of my faves, but just don't come across them in the countryside anymore. They are still at Wrabness but even there i don't come across them as often/as many as 5-10 years ago
