I don't know if this counts as a "hot take" or simply just an observation, but I'll put it out there nonetheless:
The Theatre Industry at large (yes, even Musical Theatre) is a lot straighter than I imagine most people think it is.
@LouisPeitzman I've started referring to this sound as "Musical Theatre Mush Music". It's all vaguely pleasant, the creative team can talk your ear off about how it "works dramatically" or whatever, but at the end of the day it's just a whole bunch of nothin'. Give me Bangers or give me Death.
