Canadian research made possible by Canadians - Dr Toshifumi Yokota (who holds the Friends of Garrett Cumming Research & Muscular Dystrophy Canada Endowed Research Chair) and his team at the University of Alberta have identified a new peptide that makes existing genetic therapies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) more effective, particularly in the heart.

While there are currently no approved treatments or cures for DMD, this breakthrough brings us one step closer to improving treatments for people living with DMD and other neuromuscular disorders.
