@h666ris Immigration immediately following the end of Empire was not that big a deal. Small in the grand scheme of things and managed. If that was all we had to deal with, no one would care.
@h666ris Why should they? Global mass immigration was a pretty rare outside of imperial conquest and there was no historical precedent for it. In fact, it didn't even happen till decades after the Empire was gone. Most immigration is post 97
@BarnabyThoughts@BLAIMGame@RobertJenrick I don't have great faith in Reform. But I think it's far, far more likely they'll win than Restore. And in that basis, I see Restore as a bigger threat to the future of the British people than whatever reservations I have about Reform.
@BarnabyThoughts@BLAIMGame I watched some of his efforts to "hold civil servants to account" and was embarrassed for him. He was pushing an agenda not engaging in useful scrutiny.
I think Rupert Lowe is fundamentally ineffective. I like a lot of what he says, but he seems out of his depth
@BarnabyThoughts@BLAIMGame I think they will, yes. Not enough for my tastes, but as I don't see a Restore government happening it's either something with Reform or nothing with Labour
@BMW1268@U7D74NN@PolitlcsUK I'm in Britain, which is the nation this news story is from. Margins in supermarket retail are thin. They make money by selling lots.
@BarnabyThoughts@BLAIMGame Playing fair is what allowed our country to be overrun by mass immigration. Fairness is rarely in the favour of the fair minded and just.
@BarnabyThoughts@BLAIMGame I'm not a supporter of Farage or Reform. But I believe Lowe is all about the ego. Watching how he behaved after his expulsion from Reform made clear the man is driven by ego and a desire for revenge.
@afneil In fairness, Andrew, tax payer money is often used to unlock further private sector spending. AMD did just announce £2bn investment.
Agree with broader point though, massive lack of UK investment.
@BarnabyThoughts@BLAIMGame It's also not his job to stand against Farage though, is it? Especially as the electoral arithmetic makes clear all Lowe will achieve is another left-wing government and the end of Britain.
This is a vanity project.
@BarnabyThoughts@BLAIMGame Even if we accept all you say is true, it's still Lowes decision to peel away votes from Reform.
Restore won't win the general election, they'll just hand it to Labour.
@KenBromfield1 Do we? We spent a thousand years arlt we with France and our deepest ties to Germany are one world cup and two world wars.
No common language, no common culture... What do we share except proximity?
