@agordonreed It would be great if people channeled their anger into effective political action. How many of the angry voted for Trump, who would give insurance companies more power. The insurance problem is a political problem, the absence of a public option for all.

@Tyler_A_Harper If we asked for less, members of the committee would probably read more. It would be fairer. How about a 1 page application letter, a c.v., and a chapter length writing sample. Departments can ask for additional material, and letters, when they have a short list.

@melnickjeffrey1 Oxford Dictionary: "relating to politics, especially international relations, as influenced by geographical factors." I would have guessed the political and international but not the geographical. Is the rule limited to conflicts over land?
