The ACCC entering "not applicable" as the value of its staff's ongoing use of Qantas and Virgin lounges is questionable. Standard lounges have a commercial value. The ACCC has regulatory oversight; it makes decisions that may affect the airlines' bottom line.
FOI fishing expeditions are part of the reporter's toolbox, but this one's really dumb. As antitrust campaigns target global digital platforms, every second ACCC officials spend meeting their counterparts overseas is time (and money) well spent. This is stupid provincialism.

NEW: Australia's eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant failed to disclose her attendance at a secretive, all-expenses-paid tech policy retreat funded by mining billionaire Andrew Forrest
Great FOI work from my colleague @saloni_sinha19 on the Clearview AI #privacy issue. Documents reveal the OAIC was considering a lawsuit targeting the US company, but ultimately decided against it (the eSafety commissioner's clash with X was seen as a cautionary tale).
Today's announcement that the Australian government is set to launch ex ante rules targeting digital platforms wasn't news to MLex readers... MLex's Canberra-based reporter @ryan_cropp had it all on Nov. 20.
HOT TECH REG NEWS: Long-awaited ACCC proposals to introduce mandatory competition codes for big tech platforms are set to go out for formal consultation in early December.
The consultation will be on policy proposals and will not involve draft legislation.
How did a sometime actor running a 1-man #databroker business from his home office amass enough #PII to trigger a massive #databreach? My @mlexclusive colleague @xy0o0 & I scooped the @FTC the @CalPrivacy & > 40 state AGs trying to answer that question: https://t.co/l5zB5amnYp
Imagine Rob Ghali, one of Australia's top enforcement officials, finding himself on the receiving end of this email... "I would be able to provide you with the email address for the chief information officer..." @mlexclusive@saloni_sinha19
Fantastic FOI work here from @saloni_sinha19. OAIC goes cap-in-hand to the ACCC, says it doesn't even have enough money to store documents from an investigation. ACCC says: not our problem. @mlexclusive@ryan_cropp#privacy
I recently moved my mortgage to another bank. When they told me to fill out a stack of forms, I said that they could simply access my records under the CDR. They told me they'd never heard of the CDR and didn't care. I had to fill out the forms...
