@omgsidewalks Capitalism does not force individuals to do things; rather, it structures incentives that inspire people to participate in the labor market. Socialism still compels most to participate in the labor market, but seeks to determine how much you can have under the guise of fairness
@eleanorzjames Well, Eleanor, if you think about it, most of those towns and villages were named by Englishmen who came to this continent looking for opportunity. They weren't copying England, they were homesick. Shame the English didn't appreciate their fealty and instead caused a revolution
@sarahtexe Actually, I do because the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 2) mandates an "actual Enumeration" of the residents of the US. every 10 years
@itsnwts Yes, balancing all of those activities is achievable. Doing it all successfully requires treating rest and personal time as non-negotiable, outsourcing certain chores, and combining tasks (like walking while taking work calls or listening to audiobooks).
@omgsidewalks No one says capitalism will end poverty. Capitalism improves the standard of living by continuous innovation and competition but there's always going to be people who have less. Note our poor have a higher standard of living the the poor in other parts of the world
@omgsidewalks You can't eliminate poverty. Poverty is fundamentally difficult to eliminate because it is defined relatively—someone will always possess the fewest resources compared to the rest of society.
@itsnwts That is such a stupid statement. Billionaires make their money by owning and building businesses, rather than earning a traditional wage. They accumulate $ exponentially through equity appreciation, dividends, and capital gains when their companies grow in value or go public
@iam_biglad1 Boomers fundamentally reshaped society through massive cultural, political, and technological revolutions. The size and activism fueled major advances in civil rights & women’s equality, while their embrace of the digital age helped launch the personal computing and internet era.
@skumWgmi Perhaps if you Zoomers would stop "Doomspending" and instead devote yourselves to your future and saving for that future as previous generations did, you would be in a better position to achieve the outcome you envy
