Tracy Tormé April 12, 1959- January 4, 2024
The Tormé family is very sad to announce the loss of Tracy Tormé. Husband, brother, creator.
A Peabody award winning writer and producer, Tracy was known for creating the TV series, Sliders, and his other credits include Saturday Night Live, Intruders, Fire in the Sky, Carnivale, I am Legend, Star Trek The Next Generation and the acclaimed documentary, The Phenomenon.
Son of jazz legend, Mel Tormé, Tracy forged his career even before finishing film school, being recruited by SCTV and writing for such comic greats as Eugene Levy and John Candy, before moving onto Saturday Night Live where he wrote for Eddie Murphy and Julia Louis Dreyfus among other comic greats. His talents were more than funny, though, branching out into Sci-fi and documentary filmmaking, being regarded as one of Hollywood’s foremost UFO experts.
He possessed the rare ability of being able to transition seamlessly between comedy and sci-fi writing, sometimes even combining the two.
Born in Los Angeles in 1959, he was 64 years old, and died in Escondido, California, of falling health related to diabetes.
Tracy and his wife Robin dedicated much of their time together to rescuing animals and championing animal causes. He was also an encyclopedic football and baseball fan, loving Angel baseball particularly, and loved listening to Del Amitri and The Beatles. He was one of a kind.
Tracy is survived by his wife, Robin, his brothers Steve and James and sisters, Melissa and Daisy, stepmother Ali Tormé and stepbrother Kurt Goldsmith, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
A private memorial will be held in the near future. Donations to Animal Charities would have made him happy.
Thank you to e everyone who has already been so supportive…it means so very much,
Daisy Tormé
