Binomial has built the first practical in-loop deblocking system for GPU texture compression - and it's shipping soon. It works on every device that supports ASTC (i.e. billions). No new API's or hardware needed. Fully compatible with mipmapping/filtering.

On some GPUs (eg GCN/RDNA) 24bit integer muls/mads are 4x faster than 32bit ones. 24bit instructions are not exposed in HLSL/GLSL but you can encourage the compiler to use the 24bit intrinsics by zeroing the 8 most significant bits, if the range allows it, for faster integer ops.
Game developer Thomas Grové from Studio Interrupt recreated the same horror game in both Unity and Godot to compare the engines side by side, and the results were surprisingly one-sided.
The project, a retro-style horror game called “Eyes Never Wake,” was built in both engines under the same conditions.
According to Grové, Godot performed better in most areas affecting everyday development.
>The engine started much faster, scripts compiled dramatically quicker, exports finished in seconds instead of minutes, and the install size was only a tiny fraction of Unity’s.
>Godot launched in about 13 seconds versus Unity’s 80 seconds, and exporting took around 2 seconds in Godot compared to nearly 15 minutes in Unity.

@Lammjr@GPUOpen They have to create the AI models using the GPU architecture they are meant to run on, which might take months. Using machine learning to make a model takes time and energy (in terms of electricity).

AI models are just probabilistic systems backed by data points. nothing special; they can't and will never replace human consciousness; they can only imitate the living phase of that experience.
@highyieldYT@AMDRadeon It wouldn't work unless it's in the GPU pipeline, and it would significantly increase latency unless it's done in screen space, as Microsoft does on Windows 11, unless the AI chip were integrated into the GPU.
