I was proud to start the day marching for YES for a Voice on the land of the Arakwal people of the Bundjalung nation. Everyone in our beautiful country is better off when those affected by laws and policies have a voice in shaping them.
Hearing directly from survivors is critical to understanding how a country is doing in tackling modern slavery.
I was pleased to support engagements by @JTIP_State with people with varying lived experiences of modern slavery in New South Wales.

@GhazaviVD@smh Great piece @GhazaviVD.
We should recognize that welfare is an investment in human development (h/t Amartya Sen).
And that this is about realizing rights.
Human rights describe the contours of the ‘floor’ on which capabilities & agency develop & humans flourish.
Thanks to @ABCthedrum for having me & my colleague Sarah on last Friday to discuss the crisis of 41,000 people in modern slavery in Australia and what we can all do about it.
