President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, and Former UK Foreign Secretary, David Miliband talks about his trip to the Middle East and the growing humanitarian crisis in the region caused by the Iran war.
With more than 92,000 people displaced across Lebanon, the International Rescue Committee and its partners are mobilizing to respond to the urgent needs of displaced families.
Our colleague reports on the situation on the ground:
New: When the Trump administration cut off food aid to one of the world’s largest refugee camps, it left hundreds of thousands of people to starve. This is the story of one mother’s daily battle to keep her three young sons alive. https://t.co/Aq0NNM51Dl
After two years, it is welcome news that a ceasefire may finally be within reach in Gaza. Civilians desperately need it - together with a massive scale up in humanitarian aid and access.
Great to connect with @jacindaardern and grateful for her support of Safer Births in Crises, a partnership w/@RESCUEorg, @IMC_Worldwide, @Jhpiego and @UNFPA to end preventable maternal mortality in humanitarian settings. More on our work: https://t.co/4FWLQUFgDM
Following the dismantling of USAID, the story from the ground is clear: Children are dying of hunger.
Treatment for malnutrition is simple, effective and life-saving. But those in need won’t be able to access it if world leaders continue to withdraw from this commitment. https://t.co/rjWRnVcF0v
This is a must read from my colleague @RESCUEorg . Starvation in Gaza is the phrase “man made catastrophe” brought to life. There needs to be a united call and united action to end the blockade on aid and commercial traffic NOW. https://t.co/uOyF5cHoQK
In Afghanistan, many millions of people are in dire food insecurity, without basic healthcare. Now, with the slashing of USAID, @SherineIbrahim of @RESCUEorg has an urgent message for the American people: “Please remember that this is a humanitarian crisis, that people are deserving of humanitarian support.”
President Trump's policies have targeted American foreign aid, and with it, the humanitarian groups whose work it funds around the world.
"Sunday Morning" senior contributor Ted Koppel talks with humanitarian aid workers in Africa and Afghanistan, and with former U.K. foreign secretary David Miliband (now president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee), about the impacts both abroad and at home. https://t.co/0X8YDhKLQJ
Check out tonight's edition of @NBCNews From the Politics Desk, where I highlight the turmoil @RESCUEorg clients face as the Trump administration rolls back the TPS of Afghans and Cameroonians.

“We’ve got six tons of medical goods waiting to go into Gaza,” says @DMiliband, head of @RESCUEorg. “We’re unable to do our work… because of the breakdown in the ceasefire… There’s just dread, sheer dread that exists on the humanitarian side.”
For @RESCUEorg, USAID cuts have meant “more than half of our activities have been suspended or terminated,” says CEO @DMiliband. “The consequences are very, very serious indeed.”
@RESCUEorg is sounding the alarm on the biggest humanitarian crisis of this century. As 90% of US foreign aid terminates, IRC publishes a full page @nytimes ad urging the public to meet the moment and support people in humanitarian need.

Trump was elected as a 'disruptor' says the former UK foreign secretary David Miliband, stressing that the president's messaging is very simple - 'buckle up'.
In America, the door has been slammed on legitimate refugees, says @DMiliband, including over 1,600 Afghans: “There are people with plane tickets who’ve gone through the vetting by 15 US agencies… they’re widows, they’re victims of torture… They’re left in limbo.”
