If you're celebrating USA's elimination because they are 'cheats', you are missing the point. The players or manager are not responsible. It is up to FIFA to stand firm. Their failure to do so has not only tarnished the competition, but an exciting USA team and their efforts.
The rules are insanity when a Croatia touch that does not change the path of the ball is ruled significant but a clear header that does is not. Veiga tries to duck, fine, but he fails. I have a problem whenever football rewards failure.
You know you are playing well when you create more chances (and scoring) for your false nine than many nations are creating for world-class strikers. Oyarzabal has to be one of the most underrated attackers in world football. He likes it that way.
It's so impressive how La Roja consistently get Cucu open in that crossing position, and against all types of opposition. Cucu is one of the best left-backs in the world, there is no discussion.
It is crazy to me how rarely people have spoken about Spain as a team that can win this World Cup. How quickly has it been forgotten that they beat the same France (and England) side two years ago to win the Euros? I think this performance, even if it ends 1-0, wakes up a few.
We are a rock defensively! Sometimes we defend with attitude more than organisation, but we are a rock. No goals conceded, no chances conceded.
And we know the way we move the ball, with a better Rodri, with Lamine with an extra gear, we will score. What a solid performance. We are getting better!!! Beware, World Cup contenders 😁
@LaLigaMichael How many truly successful teams haven't had a consistent 7 or 8/10 who brings the fight and the heart? There's almost always one of those players in title-winning teams, and Cucu is La Roja's.
Win or lose here, even not being the most talented team at the World Cup on an individual basis, I still think Spain have a footballing DNA and a way of moving the ball under De La Fuente that gives them the ablity to beat any team in the world.
I would be surprised if Iglesias plays more than once or twice, but there will come a moment where he can be the difference, especially with the injury issues out wide, which means less quality in terms of crosses etc.
For all of Spain's quality, even with the injuries, their ability to carve open teams in the knockouts could come down to knowing when a game needs Borja Iglesias. In a similar way to how Del Bosque recognised the one Fernando Llorente moment during the 2010 World Cup.
Watching Bielsa scream at reporters is like seeing a hot-headed parent who inevitably has a temper-ridden child. You watch Uruguay and their appalling attitude, and then you see that, and it makes sense.
Uruguay deserve to be out of the World Cup more than any other team. The poorest and most disappointing relative to talent. Cannobio should have been sent off earlier. The boy seemed to have no greater motivation than hurting an opponent. He twice grabbed the ref. Shameful stuff.
