Watching the men’s hockey gold medal game today just re-emphasized how cool it would be if @MLB allowed big leaguers to play in the summer olympics in 2028. It might be an important step in recovering from whatever happens in 2027 (which is hopefully a mutual agreement and no work stoppage). I’d love to see the big league season pause and players compete for country. Baseball needs it. The fans need it. I think the players would love it. There’s nothing like playing while the crowd chants USA USA USA!
What Ilia Malinin exhibited––in words and deeds––is what is sorely lacking in our public life.
Honesty. ("I blew it.")
Generosity. (Breathtaking to watch him get up, realize that the moment is bigger than his pain, and hug and congratulate the winner.)
Grace.
There are no medals in real life. Honesty, generosity and grace are their own medals in what can be such a dishonest, ungenerous, and ungraceful time.
