Alberta does not need to dominate the rest of Canada, and the rest of Canada should not dominate Alberta. A fair political arrangement should allow different regions to pursue different policies when their economies, circumstances and democratic preferences differ. Voting Option 2 moves Alberta a step closer to fairness.

Those countries had to fight for their independence.

In Canada it’s different…

The “Forever Canada” position keeps asking Albertans to believe that if we just wait a little longer, vote one more time, elect one more federal government, or trust Ottawa one more time, somehow our problems will disappear.

That’s like hoping unicorns are real.

We’ve spent decades trying that approach. More centralization. More federal control. More promises that Alberta will finally be treated fairly. Yet we still face barriers to developing our own resources, policies that many Albertans oppose, and a system where our influence is limited by simple demographics.

At some point, wishful thinking has to give way to reality.

The Alberta independence movement isn’t about fantasy. It’s about accepting responsibility for our own future.

Instead of waiting for Ottawa to solve Alberta’s problems, it’s about Albertans making decisions for Alberta. If we succeed, we earn it. If we fail, the responsibility is ours. That’s what self-government means.

The unicorn represents the belief that someone else will eventually fix Canada for us.

The Albertan represents the belief that no one is coming—and it’s time to take responsibility for our own future.

On October 19, Albertans will be asked a question which can be simplified as:

Should Alberta become independent from Canada?

Whether you support independence or not, ask yourself which approach is more realistic:

Keep hoping the system suddenly changes…

Or accept reality, take responsibility, and let Albertans decide their own future.

He claimed twenty new trade deals.
Over 75% of what we sell still goes to the United States.
Tariffs have tripled since he took office.

One year.
Three big promises.
Zero delivery.

The man who sold you his resume is now asking for patience.

Canadians are running out of it.

Once Alberta leaves Canada it has a clear path to becoming one of the most prosperous countries on Earth.

Alberta already produces 4.3–4.5 million barrels of oil per day with only 5.1 million people — roughly 0.85 barrels per person every single day. That is higher than Kuwait, higher than Qatar, and far higher than the UAE on a per-capita basis. Those countries used the same kind of oil wealth to eliminate personal income tax and generate enormous surpluses. Alberta starts from an even stronger resource position.

Right now Alberta sends tens of billions net out of the province every year through equalization and federal transfers while receiving nothing back. Independence ends that outflow overnight. The full value of Alberta’s energy production stays here. That creates a structural surplus large enough to fully fund every service currently provided by Ottawa and still leave a massive residual for lower taxes, higher public investment, or direct returns to citizens.

Critics claim Alberta would be weak after separation. Reality is the opposite. Alberta supplies critical energy to British Columbia and Ontario. Those provinces need the oil and gas. That physical dependence is real leverage.

Alberta would be positioned to demand proper pipeline access and commercial terms that unlock further production growth to meet global demand. Expanded egress capacity becomes a mutual interest once the alternative is tighter supply for the rest of Canada.

High oil output per person, an end to the fiscal drain, and energy leverage that forces better infrastructure — that combination is how a jurisdiction of 5 million people turns into one of the richest countries in the world. Independence doesn’t risk Alberta’s future. It unlocks it.

One of the biggest arguments against Alberta independence is that we’re landlocked.

The claim is that Canada could block our access to the Pacific, forcing Alberta to depend on the United States and weakening our sovereignty.

It sounds persuasive—until you think it through.

Alberta is already landlocked. Our geography doesn’t change with independence. The real problem isn’t being landlocked—it’s being policy locked.

We already depend on our neighbours for trade, and Canada itself depends heavily on the U.S. as its largest trading partner. Trading with another country doesn’t mean you’ve surrendered your sovereignty.

More importantly, trade works both ways.

Alberta would need access to ports, but Canada would also need access across Alberta and continued access to Alberta’s energy. Both sides would have every incentive to negotiate free trade and transportation agreements because disrupting them would hurt everyone.

Independence doesn’t make Alberta weaker. It gives Alberta its own seat at the negotiating table.

The “landlocked” argument is based on fear. The independence argument is based on economics: roads, railways, pipelines, and trade all work both ways.
