📣 Calling all acute orthopaedic physiotherapists from Australia, UK and Denmark!
We’re supporting a new international study led by Dr Morag Taylor from @UNSW that aims to explore acute orthopaedic physiotherapists’ knowledge/ attitude/ confidence in providing care to people with cognitive impairment after hip fracture.
Your insights can help understand rehabilitation access and guide future education and training for physiotherapists.
If you’ve provided care to patients in the first week after hip fracture surgery, we’d love to hear from you. Complete a short, anonymous 15–20 minute survey and help shape best practice across Australia and beyond. 🌏💡

‘Don’t forget to connect with the person - ask about them, not just about what is wrong with them’
Listening to Nick and Fleur’s experience was moving and helps us keep the focus on what’s important to people who experience a #hipfracture.
💬 A hip fracture is never routine for the patient or their family. Each story is deeply personal — reminding us why keeping consumers at the heart of what we do matters every day.
Thank you, Nick, for sharing your experience and Fleur’s story — a powerful insight into the human side of hip fracture care and decision-making. 💙

➡️ Questions to help provide comfort to those with #delirium & #dementia
Delirium is a common and serious complication after hip fracture, affecting recovery, mobility, and long-term outcomes. 🧠🦴
At #HipFest2025, our expert presenters are highlighting strategies for prevention and early management of delirium, including best practice delirium education for caregivers. Preventing delirium not only improves patient safety but also speeds up recovery and enhances quality of life.

🦴 New report highlights a missed opportunity in bone health for women 50+
Healthy Bones Australia’s latest Community Risk Report – 4th Edition (based on over 126,500 self-assessments) reveals that:
✅40% of people who had a minimal trauma fracture have not had a bone-density test
✅Only 14% of those with such a fracture were taking osteoporosis treatment
✅Nearly half of minimal-trauma fractures occurred in Australians aged 50-69 – well before the “older senior” category
✅98% of respondents had at least one lifestyle risk factor for osteoporosis e.g. low calcium intake, physical inactivity, smoking, or vitamin D deficiency.
In response, the Australian Government has committed $700,000 to boost early testing and prevention.
🔍 Key take-aways for our community:
✅A minimal trauma fracture (even a simple fall or bump) should ring alarm bells: it may signal compromised bone strength and warrants further investigation
✅Women over 50 (and men potentially) should ask about bone-density testing, especially if they have risk factors
✅Prevention + early detection = fewer fractures, less loss of mobility and independence.

A feeling of loneliness or isolation is commonly reported in people experiencing #delirium.
Don't leave them feeling like this. Speak kindly, explain what is happening, involve family.
Thank you @FF_Network for a wonderful congress - a richly rewarding experience learning from international experts & multidisciplinary colleagues, seeing some of the work led in ANZ presented and, of course, meeting some of my idols in the #hipfracture space! 🤩
The ANZHFR are thrilled to be in Porto for the @FF_Network 13th Global Congress.

Good morning Hipsters!
A very warm welcome to all delegates attending New Zealand Hip Fest in Wellington.
Looking forward to an inspiring day, with teams across the country coming together to share in the successes and challenges of #hipfracture care.
🧑⚕️ Happy World Physiotherapy Day – 8 September 🚶♀️
This year’s theme is Healthy Ageing, with a focus on preventing falls and frailty.
Falls are one of the biggest health challenges facing older Australians — 1 in 3 people over 65 will experience a fall each year. Sadly, many of these result in hip fractures, which can be life-changing.
That’s where physiotherapists step in. Physios are at the heart of falls prevention and hip fracture care — from running exercise programs that build strength and balance, to working on hospital wards, and even responding alongside paramedics in the community. Their role is vital in keeping people safe, mobile, and independent.
The @apaphysio recently spotlighted physiotherapist Natalie Davis, who works on the front line with Queensland Ambulance Service to support older people after a fall in their home. Her work shows the real impact physios make in reducing hospital admissions and helping people stay living safely at home.

On World Physiotherapy Day, let’s celebrate the essential role physios play in preventing falls, reducing hip fracture risk, and supporting healthy ageing for all.
