“If you want to be happy for an hour eat a steak if you want to be happy for a day go play golf. If you wanna be happy for a week go take a vacation, but if you wanna be happy for a lifetime, put your faith in Jesus Christ.”

several have asked if this was me. So yes this was me. it simply is a way for me to remember my 5 year old son Carson who died in May 2010. In October 2010 I was wrestling with the deaths of Carson and his 5 mth old sister Claire.
Brad Stevens is a coaching and GM mastermind.
He just helped lead the Boston Celtics to win their 18th banner.
What makes him so good?
Here are 5 reasons why…
1: ACCEPT Your Role
“I told our players at Butler, 'I hate to break it to you, but you aren't playing beyond here. That's reality. So why are you so concerned with yourself?' It's a hard lesson, but I told them, 'How you handle your role on this team will be remembered by your coaches and your teammates. It will define you.”
Brad Stevens understands how important is to clearly define roles and put players in positions to be successful. He also understands the power of we over me. He is a master of communicating this to his players.
2: ADVERSITY Shows Character
“You have a chance to show your true colors through adverse times. You can make a conscious decision to change things.”
The number one separator to success is the ability to bounce back and have resilience. As coaches and leaders, we have to prepare ourselves and our players to develop this resilience muscle..
3: Mediocrity vs. GREATNESS
“The difference between mediocre, good and great is you're able to have the enthusiasm for prep, to work to prepare to win the same in January that you do in August, when everybody says they're excited.”
The great ones find joy in the journey. They love to put in the time. They love the process. They have a growth mindset.
4: EMPOWER Your Leaders
“I've always found that in a team of 15 people, it's a little different than in a team of 40 or 50 people. If I name two or three people captains, inevitably, you're disempowering more than you're empowering.”
Excellent player leadership is critical on winning teams. On a basketball team, Brad Stevens knows how to empower his players to be leaders. This is one example of how he did it.
5: Be NEXT DAY Oriented
“I could probably go through our losses in a lot more detail than our wins, all through my career. But you have to be able to move on to what's next, and I'm very process-oriented and next-day oriented.”
This is about the process. This is about the journey. This is having a next play approach to life. We can learn and grow from every experience. Use this process to get better each and every day.
