I write & direct independent movies. The Low Down/The Cry Of The Owl/Treacle Jr/Pickups. I occasionally make music videos Radiohead/Blur & the odd short film.
@AnneBillson@ohsinnerman Haven’t seen this, very intrigued. It passed me by, don’t know how. I rewatched Van Sant’s ‘To Die For’ the other day. It’s aged really well, so playful. It was the first time I realised Kidman could act. Joaquin Pheonix is hypnotic in that film.
@nevpierce Always loved this film. Obviously for Gene Hackman, but I remember Will Patton making a real impression, in the mould of Robert Duvall or Ed Harris.
Govt wants to impose a 50% funding cut to arts subjects at higher education in England. Folly. The creative mind is the one that forges ideas in arts, science & tech. Join the @Public_Campaign for the Arts to tell @GavinWilliamson: arts education matters. https://t.co/5ljJY5G3y2
@AnneBillson@ghweldon I mean it can be fun, but somehow it feels like the mystery becomes more important than the storytelling, and as a result, after the mystery is revealed one always feels slightly let down and deflated, simply because it takes over being immersed and involved in the drama.
@AnneBillson@ghweldon I feel like this. It’s the same principle as Agatha Christie, to hold onto the attention via mystery and trying to flatter one’s ego, working out what’s coming. Patricia Highsmith totally rejected this approach and I think she believed it was too easy to hook people this way.
@trim_obey Blue Collar is excellent. Been years since I’ve seen it and what a shame Richard Pryor didn’t do more serious roles, he is incredible in that film too.
The @Conservatives’ new Police Bill would mean you could get a longer sentence for damaging a statue of a slave owner than for raping a woman.
@UKLabour will vote against this attempt to destroy our hard-won right to protest and silence women's voices.
@AnneBillson Some synergy going on there Anne. Just bought ‘Taking Off’ and ‘The Fireman’s Ball’ this morning and was watching the trailer for ‘Hair’ probably around the time of your tweet. Milos Forman was such a wonderful director.
@RachelDelahaye Birdy. Hardly spoken of but a sweet film. Cage is brilliant in it. Ditto Raising Arizona, goofy & mesmeric. He just started dialing it in a while back maybe doing too many scripts for the cash? He’s due a Travolta Pulp Fiction reappraisal movie. Mind you he was fun in Kick Ass.
