Q7: I like to conduct parent interviews that help me see their child from their point of view. I also ask parents about their interest in school which may include how often they’d like to volunteer in the class and in which area they feel comfortable volunteering!
A7: Meeting parents where they are is critical. This takes an understanding of those we serve. Pay attention and use strategies that cater to others' specific needs - we can't just generalize a "best practice" for our parents. #SCASCD#loveSCschools#emergED2lead
A7: Acknowledging the strengths and gifts that parents from diverse backgrounds can bring to the teaching and learning process sets an example for students. Getting parents involved by speaking or visiting classrooms can help students learn about each other and relevant topics
A3: One way is to make it more cooperative and relationship-based. Many cultures outside the U.S. place a higher premium on community and cooperation. #loveSCschools#SCASCD#emergED2lead
A5: In the words of @Ready4rigor, I like to consider who is carrying the cognitive load. We must use practices that invite students to engage with material where they are carrying the cognitive load. https://t.co/3v4eY9LShX. #SCASCD#loveSCschools#emergED2Lead
A6: I was recommended Educating Culturally Teachers: A Coherent Approach by Ana Maria Villegas
and Culturally Responsive Teaching: Theory, Research, and Practice by Geneva Gay @GlynnisC9#emergED2lead#loveSCschools#SCASCD
A4: We have to be mindful of our biases in the first place to know if we are applying them in our classroom. Keeping an open mind and a loving heart can help! #scascd#loveSCschools#emergED2lead
