@AlexGodofsky Slop is just in vogue at the moment. Unfortunately the use of it in a take typically means there is little to no effort or quality inherent in the argument and furthermore that there is almost no discernable human intelligence behind it.
@expressivepaige Plus most of his wife changing came fairly deep into his reign and the goal of trying to produce a son was probably understood by major powerholders.
Finally main continental powers in France and HRE were frequently at war during this period and couldn't risk overseas invasion.
@expressivepaige The War of the Roses was within living memory with the bloodshed making nobility reluctant to restart domestic strife (plus was a lack of a clear rival for who to usurp). Additionally Henry VII on coming to the throne had reformed government curbing the powers of high nobility.
@kymeriandawn I look forward to the people involved applying this principle in every similar case going forward and not only using it to benefit their own pet cause.
@CptHastings1916 Maybe would have agreed once, but during an afternoon at an Irish mate's place and in three separate Zoom calls, an American called them British/English (and in one of them did it again ~20 minutes after being politely corrected). Despite having to my ears a really strong accent.
@TheCinesthetic Seems to be fewer animals. If there are any it has to be relevant for the plot with it being rarer for anyone to just have a random pet.
@Scholars_Stage Hall Caine, Georgette Heyer, Zane Grey, James Michener. Think often at least one book of those would have got tried, but infrequently now.
@_baljot I don't think I said that he did downplay it, as opposed to not making the destructive power readily apparent. IMO similar concepts have been stated by other Presidents and it has not necessarily been accepted by the general public as such immediately.
@filmfae Plus I believe in the early 20th century in the USA there was a decent sized fad of products being advertised as atomic/nuclear because it was perceived as cool and to try to appeal to kids. So initially an atomic bomb may have simply seemed a minor technological increase.
@filmfae Don't know for sure, but the significance of them may not have been fully appreciated at the time by the average man. Even Truman's announcement of them doesn't conjure up their power. Think it properly started to be widely respected after the Bikini tests which are 1946 onwards.
@kenthecowboy_ How much more of a media circus it would have been if they had laid hands on him is awe inspiring to imagine. Really bringing the film back to reality again.
