STUDENT LOAN NEWS: The Treasury Committee of MPs has put out its report into student loans. Here's my view:-
I’ve long condemned the Chancellor’s planned freeze of the student loan repayment threshold next April as immoral and a breach of natural justice. So today is an important moment, as the cross-party Treasury Committee of MPs echoes this language in calling out a “moral obligation” for this to be reversed.
Changing terms for future students is a political choice, but that’s not what is planned next year. Freezing the threshold on existing Plan 2 loans effectively increases the amount those with those loans must repay each year. It is a retrospective, one-sided contractual change that would not be allowed in almost any other circumstance or sector. Worse, those hit often signed these contracts while just 18, with little or no explanation of what they were getting into.
This has to stop, and never be allowed again. That’s why one of the Committee’s most important proposals is that the Government should effectively be bound by the same Consumer Duty for student loans as a commercial lender, backed by proper fairness rules. Though it is only taking about student loan promotions, I think it should be for all student loan behaviour.
I have been pushing for this for over a decade. In 2016 we even got Wes Streeting, then a new MP, to propose FCA regulation of student loans and place restrictions on negative changes as a parliamentary amendment. It was rejected. Had that protection been in place, it could have stopped successive governments tinkering with the system, resulting in a horrific degradation of the original terms.
I hope this report, feeding into a new administration, means there is now a realistic chance of stopping the planned freeze and any future freezes.
Yet let’s be clear: that alone will not fix the Plan 2 student loan crisis - it’ll just stop it getting even worse. The report is titled "Student loans: broken and unfair?". There is no need for the question mark. The repayment threshold should be many thousands of pounds higher, interest should be reduced, maintenance thresholds need uprating, and the whole system, including the way it is communicated, needs a fundamental reset.

BURNHAM'S RAPE GANG U-TURN
Imagine dragging the Prime Minister in front of a national inquiry, forcing him to testify under oath about his role in covering up the Pakistani grooming gangs scandal.
We can make this a reality. But I need your help.
For 8 years, I've exposed the cover-up of Pakistani rape gangs by police and politicians. Our campaign in Oldham forced a national inquiry. Now, we must compel this inquiry to investigate a place it wants to avoid: Andy Burnham's record.
As Mayor of Greater Manchester, Burnham fronted sham "assurance reviews". They were nothing more than a cover-up of the cover-up. He would have succeeded if not for us. We fought for a national inquiry despite his efforts to bury the truth.
The inquiry won't examine Burnham's actions unless we demand it. The clock is ticking. He's poised to become Prime Minister within weeks. Once he's in Downing Street, the establishment will shield him. Institutions will dodge accountability. The press will look away. Only we can carry the truth.
That's why Red Wall and the Rabble must become more than a one-man operation. To replicate our Oldham success nationwide, we need:
- A professional website to reach millions
- Video editing for accessible, viral content
- Dedicated researchers to chase every lead
- Training events to create citizen journalists
- Resources to gather evidence and report from failed communities
Before Burnham reaches Number 10, help us gain 2,000 new paid subscribers.

With your support, we can send complicit politicians to prison. Isn't that prospect alone worth backing?

Massive thank you Chelsea fam for 200 followers! We're out here speaking the truth and supporting ChelseaFC, screaming #BlueCoOut. When I started i had 60 something followers just about a month ago. Chelsea fam are showing up! Big love. No surrender mentality 💪🦁💙
Btw, the way that these players took the p*ss out of Rosenior doesn’t sit right with me, the squad is immature, inconsiderate & unprofessional
The way they assassinated his character for wanting to get to know them better is vile, those guys need to be sold immediately👍🏼
Joe Shields should be sacked. His whole fugazi scheme is dragging Chelsea down, and I don't buy a single thing these people brief anymore. The facts are right in front of us, his mates inside the club keep getting pushed ahead of coaches who've put in real work for years. Hassan Sulaiman gets passed over, and the job goes straight to Harry Hudson, conveniently connected through Kinetic. It's the same pattern over and over again, and it's killing the club from the inside.
This is the level of arrogance we’re dealing with and exactly why the only way forward is to continue campaigning for the removal of Blueco.
The sporting directors are not being held accountable. They’re still being trusted by Eghbali to continue running this club into the ground.
Tweaking the model is vague and subjective. In reality it will be minimal. It won’t be enough to have us competing at the top level.
And if you’re expecting a top manager, or someone the fans can genuinely get behind, remember this is the same group that brought in Potter, Poch, Maresca and Rosenior.
We’ve seen names linked. Fabregas, Alonso, Iraola, Mourinho.
If you think any of those come into this environment, under this ownership, while they double down on a failing model that fans and players don’t believe in… you’re kidding yourself.
We’ll end up with another boot half or mid table Premier League manager. Someone who wouldn’t usually get near a job of this size, using it to elevate their own profile.
We have to keep pushing. We have to keep disrupting.
Build on the momentum we’ve created with @NotAProjectCFC.
It's not a problem to have multiple SDs if Chelsea feel it's better to have different opinions, but in that kind of setup, it's better to have a technical director who will oversee the work of the Sporting Directors and communicate to the coach.
The technical director and the coach decide if it is worth doing or not. Like how Marina worked with scouts, Marina reported to Cech, and Cech talks to Tuchel and makes a decision. Then it is communicated back to Marina to take action.
But we can't join the Sporting and technical directors' work in a 5-man, 4-man, or even 2-man team and expect the coach to listen to all of them. No serious coach will accept that.
We must amend this structure if we want a serious coach to join Chelsea again.
Chelsea had the chance to rally the troops for the last 5 games by at least bringing John Terry into the coaching team, ahead of or behind McFarlane. But no, they've disgracefully ignored him once again. It's an absolute farce.
Terry might have little experience as a coach tactically, but he's a leader who would lift and motivate the players and fans at the very least for these last few games. I can tell you one thing, if Terry was in the dressing room, we wouldn't be speaking about how we are outrun by every single team this season. A chance to unite a fan base and a squad even just for a short time, failed miserably by Blueco yet again. And don't give me Frank Lampard as an example of how this can fail - they are two different people.
If I were Chelsea, I would do anything to get these two [Simon Rolfes as technical director and Xabi Alonso as head coach] together at Chelsea and hand them this project.
It's like when City brought Aitor "Txiki" Begiristain and Pep Guardiola together. It's priceless to bring a sporting director or technical director and a coach that knows each other's game inside out.
That combo will never disappoint you.
🚨Statement on the sacking of Liam Rosenior🚨
We acknowledge this afternoon’s breaking news regarding the sacking of Liam Rosenior.
While the timing may come as a surprise, the outcome itself was inevitable. Liam was not equipped to lead a club of Chelsea’s stature, and his appointment in the first place was a clear reflection of an ownership group that continues to treat Chelsea as a sporting experiment rather than the elite institution it has been for decades.
From the outset, it was clear to fans, media, pundits, and even players that Liam was placed into a role at the wrong stage of his development. At a time when the squad was crying out for an experienced, authoritative leader, the club instead appointed someone still learning his trade, simply because he fit their internal model.
This is the consequence of an arrogant and misguided structure.
We want to thank Liam Rosenior for stepping into an impossible situation. He took on a role under an ownership that has created an unstable and damaging environment, one that had already driven out his predecessor under extraordinary circumstances. His intentions were never in question.
However, intentions are not enough at a club like Chelsea.
As a fanbase, we demand a manager that reflects the stature, ambition, and expectations of Chelsea Football Club. We reject the idea that the role of a head coach can be reduced to data points. Leadership, experience, and the ability to command respect remain fundamental to success at the highest level.
Today’s decision is yet another damming indictment of an ownership and sporting structure that is not fit for purpose. It reinforces what many already know, that those currently in charge are not the right custodians of this football club.
The club has spoken of “self reflection” in its statement. We believe that process must start at the very top. Perhaps the club has come to the conclusion there is a statistical relationship between a manager and results.
Behdad Eghbali must be held accountable for the environment that has been created. Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart, and Joe Shields must also take responsibility for a series of appointments and decisions that have consistently fallen well short of the standards we demand.
Any new appointment must go beyond data and fitting a rigid model. It must be about restoring a connection between the squad and the fans. That same principle must apply across the coaching staff and those in decision making positions at the club. Without that connection, there can be no identity, and without identity, there can be no success.
We will continue to hold the club to account and will be announcing further action this season directed at those responsible for the continued decline of Chelsea Football Club.
