Art from trash
Thomas Deininger highlights the amount of single use plastic and waste disposed of in the worlds oceans by making art out of the material he finds
The animals he sculptures are the same creatures threatened by this waste
👩🔬 My former colleagues at @UFZ_de are looking for a modeller to develop methodologies/tools to assess the potential impact of blue-green infrastructures 💦 for sustainable water management in urban and peri-urban environments. Could that be you? #sciencejobs@joshswaterjobs

git commit -m “First she noticed a bug in production. What happens next will SHOCK you!”
@hadleywickham Yes. Hahaha, @CSomlai and I were working several days on scraping data from Zotero's online version last week. Data is dynamically loaded when you scroll through. Even PowerAutomate was struggling and a pain to set up.
Some lighter news for a change...
Mondrian painting has been hanging upside down for 75 years
Despite the discovery, the work, titled New York City I, will continue to be displayed the wrong way up to avoid damaging it

More solar, not less, is the answer to make the UKs net-zero goals. Banning solar from underused farm land, is a step in the wrong direction, @Conservatives!
Shocking that "solar covers a smaller land area than airports, golf courses or Christmas trees".

@Ecologicmichele At Bristol Temple Meads @GWRBTM they just recently replaced the free water fountain with a paid one. Sad to see that this locks people out. I know, maintenance costs money, but if @GWR really prioritized sustainable transport over their bottom line, you'd offer free refills.
@SadhbhO This was a very eye opening debate and something I've been looking for for a long time. Thanks @Ecologicmichele for pointing me at this by commenting. Also, just ordered the book in... through my local library :)
More than 3 decades after reunification, that's what income distribution looks like in Germany according to @zeitonline. Despite obvious urban-rural patterns, the stark division along the old inner-German border is shocking. More info [paywall]: https://t.co/Jpso6YwD9q
Back of house visit in a hotel today... That's the leftover soaps from hotel rooms being collected for #reuse/#recycling. Crazy to think that most bars appear barely used. Maybe next time, if you use the hotel soap, just take it he with you? 🤔 Better even #bringyourown.
@TheKarstMan On the other hand, I talked to a back-of-office manager at a hotel today amd they told me that the average staff retention time for their staff atm is about 3 months... About the average length of a PostDoc extension contract... 🤣
@TheKarstMan Same at UFZ. We struggle to find so. to take up the PostDoc that became available after I left... Not sure if it's "wanting too much" and discouraging people to apply in the first place or the unattractiveness of fixed term contracts without clear perspective I'm academia 🤔
