Saying “thank you” to some people who helped out last week on our Outdoor Pursuits trip. A simple act of reciprocity.
Cute Santa-Capped Chickadees drawn by students!

Incredible what you can achieve with a dedicated group. These 11/12th graders figured out the importance of leaning into each others strengths this weekend while slogging their way to and from Elk Lakes ACC hut. #outdoorleadership@rvsed#getoutside#outdooreducation
“Breathe it in and you start to remember things you didn’t know you’d forgotten.” - Robin Wall Kimmerer on Sweetgrass. My students taking some solitude time this afternoon to read and to engage in some nature journaling in our local wild space.

We live in a beautiful world, people!
Grateful to have the chance to help our students see it, experience it, and develop a relationship with that which sustains us!

Three beautiful and formative days on the river! There were moments of awe, tears, and so much laughter - AND growth. “Take someone into the wilderness and they come back a better person.” It’s true for me every time.

Essential ROAMS practice: solitude time. Today it was a time to look over the town these students get to call home and think from a different perspective.

Grateful for my job. Whew, these students are awesome! Today our ROAMS crew said, "Mr. Talen, don't look back here for 10 minutes" on the bus. When they said, "turn around" I was greeted by a class of ducklings. They then handed me a triceratops onesie. #dreamjob#RVSEd@rvsed
Thanks to @spiritnorthxc for leading us in some super fun indigenous games this morning! Loved learning about the history and purpose of each game. Here is the seal pull: a game for entertainment and strength building in small spaces in the winter.
A beautiful day on the land yesterday with wonderful people. We are so fortunate to have such beauty on our doorstep and to have such beautiful people to learn from!

Not a lot of snow to work with! Lowest I’ve seen at this location (Lower Kananaskis Lake) in early Feb. Didn’t stop this ROAMS crew from devising efficient snow harvesting strategies!
Grateful to be in this beautiful space for the day.

My experience with the Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship has affirmed, more than ever, that giving students MANY different ways to engage with the natural world is a magic key towards helping them grow to know and love it. @LindbladExp@InsideNatGeo#GTF2023#getoutside
