It’s Sunday and I hope we are having a wonderful time. May the good lord meet us at the point of our needs.
I have just been informed that the HO is mulling the ideas of extending period of Naturalisation to five years after ILR for migrants post March 2023
Who else heard it ?
Being Nigerian in the UK will teach you that money can disappear faster than “Aunty, how are you?” at a Nigerian party. 😂🇳🇬🇬🇧
A bag of garri? £5+
Stockfish? £15–£30
A small bottle of palm oil? £5–£8
Egusi? £8–£12
Crayfish? £5–£10
Nigerian food from a takeaway? £20–£30
Barbing? £25–£40
Braiding? £80–£200+
A Nigerian party outfit? £100+
Uber to a Nigerian event? £20–£40
Parking at the event? Another £10–£20 😭
Sending money home? Whatever you can afford.
Flight to Nigeria at Christmas? Don’t even ask. 😂✈️
Rent? £1,000+ before you’ve even bought a single bag of rice.
And my personal favourite
You leave the house with £100 thinking,
“Today, I’m just going to buy a few things.”
You come back with two bags and £7.43 in your account. 😭
Nothing fancy.
Just Nigerian life in the UK.
You work.
You pay bills.
You send money home.
You buy Nigerian food.
You attend birthdays, weddings and naming ceremonies.
You somehow still find money for asoebi.
You came to the UK to make money.
The UK said: “Make payments first.” 😂🇳🇬🇬🇧
Thank you for the tweet. I’ll take responsibility for my part in everything because, as you rightly said, perhaps I shouldn’t have handed over the community to anyone in the first place.
In our Nigerian culture, when our elders speak to us, we listen and respect their guidance. I was advised to hand over the community, which is why I did. Personally, however, I wouldn’t have handed it over at that time.
Sometimes in life, time speaks for itself.
When I created the community, I was personally paying graphic designers, the website developer, travelling up and down to attend to community members, and covering many expenses from my own pocket. At that time, there wasn’t much interest.
It was only when LemFi started paying the community £4,000 a month that suddenly there seemed to be a lot more interest in the community.
I have learned a lot of lessons from this experience, including my own mistakes and how I should handle things better as a community leader.
The funny thing is, I have never had access to the NIUK community account from day one, and SK can also testify to that. Even when I travelled and spent £100 on petrol, I had to provide a receipt before I could be reimbursed from the account.
There is currently over £50,000 in the NIUK community purse, and every penny should be properly accounted for. Community funds belong to the community, and there should be complete transparency about how every penny has been received and spent.
If necessary, I am prepared to take the appropriate legal steps to ensure that everything is properly accounted for. At the end of the day, NIUK was a community I created from the ground up, and I believe its history, finances and affairs deserve to be handled with transparency and accountability.
That is why we have started something new and exciting with @NCUKCommunity back the good old days and rebuild a community based on service, commitment and genuine passion.
Moving forward, I promise to do better and, of course, handle things better. Running a Nigerian community in the UK requires vision, commitment, willingness to travel, attend court cases, visit people in prison, attend conferences, and most importantly, genuine passion for helping our people.
I’m not perfect, and one thing I have also realised is that sometimes helping people can put you in difficult situations. That is why, when you are abroad, you sometimes learn that it has to be every person for themselves.
As for all the attacks against me and the articles published by bloggers, not a single person has taken me to court over any alleged wrongdoing. Nobody is above the law in the UK. If anyone genuinely believes I have wronged them, they should follow the proper legal process and do what is necessary.
I have learned my lessons.
Now, our focus is on the future, rebuilding trust, strengthening the community and bringing back all the good things that made the old days special.
One day, we will all talk about the way Ogbeni Dipo and co, scattered our former NIUk community.
This was a community where you run to, to ask questions.
A place where you can find someone to accommodate you tentatively.
A place where people raised money for those in dire situations.
A place where you can relax, bant each other and relieve stress.
But as soon as they heard that the owner was making money through it, it became a problem.
@Oluomoofderby was always out there for people. In case of untimely death, he’s there, helping with gofundme, visiting families etc.
You are a JJC, he was there to guide you.
Passport issue, he was there..
School fees issue, he was there.
Social service issues, he would raise alarm.
COS after a failed marriage, he was there.
From one county to another.
Now all of you who wanted to become president, VP, treasurer etc, where are you?
Something you did not have passion for, you just wanted to hijack it for the purpose of doing the same thing you accused the owner of doing.
Las las none of you can hold a community together. Shame!
You all started creating different faction of community that did not make it to limelight.
God will punish all of you.
Call me whatever you want, if you cannot take that man to court to prove that he stole from you or your family, then keep quiet till eternity.
I blame @Oluomoofderby too.
You should not have released any password to anyone that time.
Oya what have they done differently?
Nothing.
They all were looking for a way of getting peanuts from LemFi.
They have no intention to help anyone.
It’s for their pockets.
Clueless and visionless.
