This is probably the most important bye week of Kyle Whittingham’s coaching career.

He’s spent roughly 40 years in coaching, including three decades at Utah, but the scrutiny and pressure at Michigan is a different beast. This is a blue blood program that's off to its worst start in over a decade and the fanbase is frustrated.

What do you do with an offensive coordinator whose scheme has produced one of the worst offenses in the country (No. 122 nationally)? How do you fix the issues up front and the lackluster rushing attack? And what do you do with Bryce Underwood, the former five-star QB who arrived with massive expectations and a price tag north of $10 million? Do you stick with him and work through some of his limitations, or turn to true freshman Tommy Carr?

It’s one thing to acknowledge that the offense has been unacceptable. It’s another to identify what needs to be fixed and to make the changes needed to fix it.

These next two weeks will tell us a lot about Whittingham’s willingness to make those difficult decisions and his ability to get Michigan back on track.
