What happens to our vocabulary when the climate crisis meets a global pandemic? As promised, here's my take on the words that defined our planet this year (my 4th annual installment!) https://t.co/3pu6phyOot
@AuthorCFeehan Do you donate to environmental projects? So much of the world needs help. I would like to know if you put some of your wealth to good causes.
This puzzle is interesting. It appears to be testing a country's name on the surface, but in reality, it is highlighting our reliance on search tools.
Once Google is banned, the brain gets stuck on the most familiar option. Spain is too obvious, so it is excluded. Then many countries that commonly start with an S, such as Sweden Switzerland, Singapore, Syria, Slovenia, Serbia, Seychelles, may emerge, but people still find it difficult.
This is essentially a reflection of the Google effect. We are becoming increasingly skilled at remembering "where to find information" rather than the information itself, resulting in a decline in unassisted memory.
Interestingly, even when aware of this cognitive bias, many people immediately want to search, including myself. This reminds us that occasionally forcing our brains to run naked might help reconstruct some internal knowledge maps.
In short, a great puzzle. Thank you for sharing.
