The Princess Bride (1987) struggled at the box office because the studio didn’t know how to sell its tone and only later became the beloved classic it is today. It was one of the defining films of Rob Reiner’s career. Rob Reiner, a singular voice in cinema
An anecdote I cherish is Mandy Patinkin once asked Rob Reiner what The Princess Bride was about. Reiner said it’s about a grandfather telling his grandson that the most important thing in in the world is love. I think that’s beautiful.
