Often, people question why we hold on so tightly to memories of a time before our own. They wonder why we make it so important to remember the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. But how could we forget the pain that robbed our loved ones of their happiness and snatched away the lives of our families?

As the post-genocide generation, we carry a heavy burden. We remember the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis not just to mourn our loved ones who were taken from us but also because we still have a war to wage. There are deniers, propagandists, and individuals who seek to erase the memories of our loved ones and rewrite the history of our country.

But we will not allow their falsehoods to gain ground. We will not let the atrocities that were committed against our people be forgotten or erased. We will speak truth to power, and we will stand up against those who seek to distort the reality of what happened.

The memories of our loved ones and the pain of the genocide still linger with us. We carry their legacy with us as we fight for a better future, one built on hope, love, and respect for all. As the youth we have to continue to raise our voices and tell the world about the horrors that were committed against our people by every mean. We have to ensure that their memories are never tarnished or forgotten.

Together, we have to keep the flame of remembrance burning bright, and work tirelessly to create a Rwanda where everyone can live in peace and harmony. Let us never forget the lessons of the past, and focus on building a brighter future for generations to come.
