Pretty privilege is often a curse and a resource trap for young women. Yes, beautiful women enjoy many privileges that others will never experience.
But the ire of sexually unsuccessful men and women has detrimental consequences.
Japanese light novel titles used to be a handful of words - or even a single word. Now, it's not uncommon to see titles topping almost 100 kanji and kana characters. When did people start writing such ridiculously long ranobe titles? And - more elusively - why?
Today marks the anniversary of 3/11—the quake that devastated #Japan, killed thousands, triggered a nuclear meltdown
It’s a day of mourning, but also a warning: the problem remains
Even today TEPCO pours nuclear waste in the ocean☢️

I mean I’m there are some buttons on FB I could push that might make the endless stream of utter bullshit about Japan go away, but on the other hand it is sort of like an accident on the side of the road…
If you have a #TESLA, maybe now is a good time to get rid of it
Here’s why:
When people get fed up with “the temporary hardship” that Elmo and the Trumpocracy inflict on them, they’re going to get very angry…
And when they can’t touch him, they’ll start burning his cars
Shiori Ito’s documentary Black Box Diaries exposes a cover-up, but in Japan the debate isn’t about justice
it’s about footage
Marriott’s silence and cooperation is eloquent
Who’s really protesting?

ICYMI: The scandal surrounding ex-SMAP member Nakai Masahiro has renewed discussion about sexual harassment in the Japanese workplace. Women are taking to social media to share stories of how abuse and creepy behavior have pushed them out of their jobs.
A visualization from MBS news of what Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba is facing when he heads to Washington in a few days. The red arrows indicate policies that contradict each other.
Ishiba: "......" (Japan doesn't know how he'll deal with this chaotic situation)
Posting anything on this forum about Shiori Ito a few years back invited a Tsunami of trolls condemning her as an anti-Abe activist or worse. 'Black Box Diaries' has now become the first documentary by a Japanese director nominated for an Oscar. Bravo. https://t.co/mfOSZ5rjEU
Deja vu in the headlines: Two assassinations, two lone gunmen, and two systems exploiting the vulnerable. Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, and Shinzo Abe, Japan’s former Prime Minister, were both killed in broad daylight with homemade weapons. At first, the world mourned. Then, the narratives shifted. Sympathy for the assassins—men who believed they were striking back against systems that preyed on the powerless—grew louder.
Abe’s killer, Tetsuya Yamagami, blamed the Unification Church for destroying his family. His mother had given the cult everything, bankrupting them and leaving a wake of tragedy. Thompson’s assassin, Luigi Mangione, struggled with a broken healthcare system that left him in chronic pain, broke, and bitter. Both assassins saw their victims as symbols of corruption: Abe’s deep ties to the Unification Church and Thompson’s role in a for-profit healthcare industry accused of denying care for profit.
What’s chilling is how public opinion has transformed these assassins into anti-heroes. Yamagami inspired reforms in Japan, with lawmakers tackling predatory religious organizations. Will Mangione spark the same in the U.S., forcing the healthcare industry to confront its own systemic failures?
Folk hero or criminal? Victim or symbol of greed? These cases blur the lines, forcing nations to question what’s truly broken.
