Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50 met with Japanโs Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the UNGA in New York today.
The two sides held a productive exchange on ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on trade and investment, education, health, the automobile sector, and digital IT cooperation.
They also discussed regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East. Foreign Minister Motegi appreciated Pakistanโs diplomatic and mediation efforts in support of regional peace and stability.
Both sides expressed hope that all sides would return to dialogue and pursue implementation of the Islamabad MoU. They also exchanged views on the implications of the situation for energy supplies, supply chains, and the global economy.
The two Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the momentum of bilateral engagement and further expanding cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

FM MOTEGI held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Mohammad Ishaq DAR, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, during his visit to New York, the U.S. At the outset, FM MOTEGI stated his intention to further strengthen bilateral relations toward the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Pakistan in 2027. He also reiterated his respect for the mediation efforts made by Deputy Prime Minister DAR and the Government of Pakistan with the aim of de-escalating the situation in Iran, and expressed his intention to work closely with Deputy Prime Minister DAR in a profoundly challenging and increasingly severe international situations.

Amb Akamatsu and Secretary Karim signed JPY 2.6 billion grant for โthe Project for Flood Protection and Dike Improvement on Indus River in Sindh Provinceโ to minimize the risk of the dike breaches and associated economic losses through the reinforcement of dike in Sindh Province.
Ambassador AKAMATSU Shuichi attended the Oath-Taking Ceremony of the newly elected Executive Committee of MAAP Lahore Regional Chapter, highlighting the important role of MEXT alumni in strengthening educational and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Pakistan.
Amb Akamatsu signed a USD 142K grant with Dopasi Foundation for Tuberculosis screening in Punjab & Islamabad. Supported by Toyota Tsusho & FUJIFILM, the project will deploy a Land Cruiser equipped with compact X-ray & AI technology to bring screening to about 20K people annually.
Amb Akamatsu signed a USD 53K grant with Moawin Foundation today to build a women's vocational training institute in Dulmial, Chakwal, reflecting Japan's commitment to women's empowerment. The institute will train 240 women annually in sewing for employment and entrepreneurship.
On 24 August, Professor ENDO Ken from the University of Tokyo delivered a lecture at QAU on โJapanโs FOIP 3.0 and the Future of Middle-Power Diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific.โ Attendance were QAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal, SPIR Director Dr. Mirza, and Amb AKAMATSU.

Today, Amb Akamatsu signed a JPY 350 million grant for the JDS Program, supporting Pakistani government officials to pursue advanced degrees in Japan, nurturing Pakistanโs future leaders and strengthening Japan-Pakistan friendship.
Amb Akamatsu, together with, JICA President Tanaka met with Federal Minister Ahad Khan Cheema. They praised the contribution of Japanโs ODAโsince its start in 1954โto Pakistanโs nation-building and resilience, and shared the view to further strengthen Japan-Pakistan cooperation.
