@Timcast Tim, if a biological female who identified as male won a men’s-only poker tournament, I find it hard to believe the men who lost would be outraged because they lost to a “female.”
Sports are sports, and games are games. Women’s sports and private spaces should absolutely be protected. But I don’t think games need separate divisions or the same protections. They’re a battle of the mind, not the body.
It’s been entertaining watching people in the comments insist women can’t outthink men in chess, poker, or other games, while others assume I must be against protecting women because I don’t think poker or other games should have men’s and women’s divisions.
That’s X for you. People get so wrapped up in defending their tribe and ideology that nuance goes out the window. The fact that a biological male is beating biological women in a poker tournament, again, a game, has some people acting like women are under attack. If you lost at poker, maybe the answer is to play better, “ladies.”

@libsoftiktok This is a weird hill to die on. What inherent advantage do men, women, or trans people have in poker? It’s a game of skill, psychology, and decision making, not strength or speed.
@REDTOOTHORION Jeopardy doesn’t have separate men’s and women’s competitions. Everyone competes together, so that example actually supports my point more than yours.
@SDeansly Poker isn’t a sport. Women’s sports absolutely should be protected. But games are different. They’re a battle of the mind, not the body, so I don’t think they need separate leagues or the same protections.
@sotallytober69 The claim that men have a higher IQ than women is scientifically false. The fact that you believe it says more about your IQ than anyone else’s.
@crogers_htown Plenty of women have beaten male grandmasters in chess. Personally, I don’t think chess should have separate men’s and women’s divisions in the first place.
@jsors2020 I’m all for protecting women’s sports and spaces. I just don’t think a poker table belongs in that conversation. Like I said in my original post, this is a weird hill to die on.
@Laughatthem123 So by that logic, every time a guy plays a board game against his mom, sister, girlfriend, or wife, he has an inherent decision making advantage? Makes perfect sense.
