I'm sad to learn that J. Craig Venter, a key figure in modern genomics and an inveterate troublemaker, passed away.
Craig was very important to the study of human genetics and the biotechnology industry. He also had an impact on my career. The pitch that led @michaelnoer to hire me at Forbes in 2000 was about Venter's company, Celera Genomics, and its work on the mouse genome.
Seventeen years, later, Michael edited a cover story I wrote about Venter for Forbes.
Must read story from @antonioregalado about a biotech that wants to make brainless clones as a personal source of organ donation or even body transplant. They pitched themselves to me as an alternative to animal models company. That wasn't the full story. https://t.co/qlcEDaDfet

A Chinese biotech says its gene therapy slowed aggressive brain cancer in an early human test, but the debated approach is already drawing skepticism from some researchers.

Honored to have won a George Polk award for my coverage of the turmoil at FDA last year. The STAT team was also recognized for reporting on the Trump admin's impact on health and science. https://t.co/D3bp4J5xrr
With a valuation of about $61 billion, Hengrui is now larger than Takeda and Bayer.
But there’s still one big item on its bucket list: selling its own treatments outside of China. My story in @endpts:

At #JPM26, pharma leaders said the US should focus on fixing its own biopharma system, not slowing China’s rise in drug development. https://t.co/3DZY6FMDHG
