I spent 6 weeks inside @fdotinc Offseason. Here’s 3 lessons I learned that changed how I build:

1. Sell the outcome, not the product.

Think about the fire flower in Super Mario.

Mario doesn't care how many petals it has. He cares that it makes him twice as big and lets him shoot fireballs so he can save Peach.

Your customers are the same. They don't care about your automated CSV data mapping or 99.9% uptime cloud architecture. They care that you save them 15 hours of manual data entry every week.

Sell the fireballs. Not the flower. (stolen from @FurqanR )

2. Validate fast. Ship fast. Keep launching.

Before you build anything: landing page, waitlist, LOIs. If people won't even give you their email, they won't give you their money.

Then ship. Theres a saying in Finc: "get the f*** out of localhost." Your product isn't real until strangers can touch it.

And launching isn't one shot. You get unlimited attempts.

Cursor launched 8 times before it worked. Dyson built 5,126 failed prototypes. #5,127 became a multibillion-dollar company.

Launch. Learn. Launch again.

3. Be customer obsessed.

@deedydas (Menlo Ventures) told us about a memorable experience he had with a founder.

He messaged him at 2 AM from an anonymous Discord account with random product questions.
The founder replied instantly. At 2 AM. To a total stranger.
Deedy said that was his #1 signal. Not the deck. Not the metrics.

Forget the investors. Listen to your customers.
