Reverse-immigrant from Canada to USA. Aesthetically conservative, politically progressive. Ex-librarian, ex-academic, ex-commensurate wage. Failed Gen Xer.
@charliekirk11 Wow, are you not magnanimous. A whole $1,000 to uproot one's life and go to a country they might not have lived in since childhood. Puts all other previous Nobel Peace Prize prospects to shame.
@EDSecMcMahon@Harvard It's amazing how right wingers tell people in entertainment to "stay in their lane" when it comes to politics (unless said entertainment folk are also right wingers). But they're perfectly fine with someone in entertainment bullying a major university for no good reason.
@GenFlynn@AGPamBondi She was among the violent rioters who stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to disrupt the confirmation of free and fair election results of a legitimate leader.
In that sense, commemorating Kent State and celebrating May the Fourth (in the sense of pushing back against imperial expansion) isn't as self-contradictory as one might initially think. And we need both now more than ever.

In recent times, it has become easier to associate the Star Wars-related pun of "May the Fourth [be with you]" with today's date than with the Kent State massacre, one of the most notorious moments (among too many others) in relatively recent US history.
That said, I don't begrudge anyone celebrating May the Fourth. In fact, at least in an allegorical sense, Star Wars is a product of the Zeitgeist. And it isn't just the eggheads with fancy degrees "reading too much" into it. George Lucas has said so himself.
@patriottakes Yet another reason why we desperately need to teach media literacy. Not to say that people can't read their own meanings into movies, TV, books, etc., but this is objectively nonsensical, given that Trump is literally an imperialist (and ICE is fast becoming his Stormtroopers).
@KaoticLeftist Sad to see Cenk go full broken clock, and would rather yell at the people who would objectively be closer to the real populism of solidarity, and not the phony populism of resentment.
@EverIntrigued@StephenM You right wingers always rule based on politics. Your fascist ideology tries to satiate nihilistic urges to destroy any semblance of civil society under the guise of "law and order," which includes murder with plausible deniability.
@StephenM It's a wonder more people don't point out you're basically the love child of Goebbels and Roy Cohn, complete with the requisite nihilism and self-hatred.
